What is the plan with CJ when he comes back?

First I believe CJ is a warrior and will always play if possible. I also think that mentality could cause him some trouble late in the year.

CJ is 32 so wear and tear should be much more of a concern with him. It would make sense to keep his minutes under 30 so he will be fresh come playoff time. To be honest with our depth in the back court that shouldn’t be an issue.

I think he starts, but with the younger guys showing up he will definitely lose some minutes IF Willie plays it right. Which imo that's a good thing to keep him fresh throughout the season and into the playoffs, and hopefully keep him healthy. I can see him getting the Jonas 22-28 minute range treatment going forward.

Then Willie is going to have to start playing chess with the young guys and sub them in based on situations more than minute counts.

CJ will start and get his regular 34ish minutes a night. He shoots 40ish from 3. Jose and Dyson will see their minutes cut.

When Trey comes back those two will get minutes reduced even more, and then Naji gets spot minutes only. This only happens if we stay healthy, though. Which we all know is a fallacy.

You also have Trey minutes coming back. Jose and Naji are going to be pushed back a lot with 8 guys needing 25-35 min a night. I’m more worried we cut Hawkins minutes and play someone else. He needs to continue to play.

Just cause I was curious, CJ per 36 this year was 22.7 points, 5.9 assists and 5.1 rebounds. That’s absurd that we are adding that to this team right now. Remember we’ve still hardly ever seen CJ, BI and Zion together. This team has another level coming.

Hawkins shoots the 3 ball. In todays nba that is basically all that matters. Dyson needs to shoot nothing but threes over the summer.

It really is. He carried this team early on this year with BI out and other injuries. Honestly trust 9 guys with starter minutes right now with matchups. And that’s not including nance actually looking healthier at the end of the game last night on that block.

The challenge imo is going to be maximizing lineups.

Who plays best together and who closes games.

Ideally, your closing 5 is CJ, Herb, BI, Zion, Trey.

Three shooters to space for Zion and Herb for D.

Then situationally on d you could replace someone with Dyson and or Jose

My predictions:

CJ will certainly start, though I could see him coming off the bench for his first couple of games back, since he likely will be on a severe minutes restriction.

Trey will get "starter minutes," even though I don't think he'll start.

Dyson will still get a lot of minutes -- he's too good not to get over 20 a game. Jose will see his minutes cut a good bit; he probably will only see 10-12 minutes on the court per night, just to disrupt things and inject energy. Same for Naji. Hawk's minutes likely won't drop until Trey is back, but I think that they will still find 15 for him after that. When the team is healthy, I don't think that Matt Ryan will play very much, because we'll have enough shooting with CJ, Trey, and Hawk -- he'll get some run in games where Trey gets in early foul trouble.

And he was hurt last year. It definitely affected his play.

Have you been watching? Dyson is hitting his 3s. Dyson needs to get to the cup more. It will allow even more spacing.

He’s at 29 or 30% from 3. That’s awful for a guard.

ETA: Just checked, he’s at 30%. Even more troubling is that he’s shooting 65% from the line. Those kinda numbers will get you hunted in the playoffs.

I think CJ is playing at a very high level but I also don’t want him to over due it. We have young guys who can play at a high level to absorb so mins. I just feel like CJ can wear himself down if you don’t monitor him a bit.

We want him fresh in the 4th to close and I think some combo of Hawkins/Dyson/Jose can provide that w/o much drop off.

Yeah I’m good with being mindful of his season minutes. We need him to help lead the way in the playoffs as the guy with the most experience.

Won't happen, nor should it.

He's not old, and we need to maximize winning in the regular season.

I'd bet the largest sum I've ever bet that CJ won't play 22-28 mpg for the rest of the season when he returns.

No, Dyson has been terrible from 3 this season.

I wouldn’t say terrible but not great either. 31 percent. Would be awesome if him and Herb can get mid to upper 30’s on catch and shoot/corner 3’s. Would be massive for the offense.

Not horrible, but not great. Dysons splits are 44.4 / 30.6 / 65.2, need to be better, especially with the limited shots he takes.

For reference Herb this season: 51.0 / 35.7 / 85.7!

30% is horrible.

Westbrook is probably the worse volume 3pt shooter ever. He shoots 30%.
