Listening to the Simmons pod and he's talking about how they may need to deal Robert Williams and how his deal is reasonable, etc. From a purely theoretical perspective, he would be perfect from a needs standpoint. From a reality perspective (especially considering we are legit cursed re: injuries), I just don't see how this wouldn't end up a disaster.

No.

He would play less than Zion if he came to New Orleans.

Wendell Carter Jr. Also because his injury history and this team's injury history seems like a bad mix.

That's a good one.

Not just injury, but it's likely a short term fix where we'd have to give up an asset AND get worse at center.

I say short term because with Herb and Trey coming in 2 years, I see no path to affording to keep WCJ once a Trey extension is due.

Rob Will is the perfect fit for the Pels...in a good way and in all the bad ways too

Robert Williams would be the perfect fit for this team. He's very talented and would be a perfect defensive center next to Zion. He is also perpetually injured, so Zion won't feel too bad when he's sitting out because Time Lord will be sitting right next to him.

Honestly I think someone Jakob Poetl might help us more. Robert Williams is better but Poetl would get paid less and is always available.

Just noticed Christian Wood is a free agent. Should we start another Christian Wood thread? It’s been a while.

Why in the world do you think Poeltl gets paid less?

There’s still a small contingent who want the Pels to pair Lillard and CJ again. That feels like an obvious disaster.

Christian Wood is a good one that I’m sure we’ll get some threads on soon.

I’m sure someone will start a thread about Caris LeVert being a perfect fit.

There’s really that many that are actually possible that are also an auto-no. It’s much more about the cost of acquisition. For instance, if Griff moves a Gobert-esque haul for Myles Turner, I’d lose my shite.

Can we add Jordan Clarkson to this auto NO list?

Thanks in advance!!!

Should probably start with a list of who’s available and realistic targets.

I'll be that guy. I want him on this team. He'll be cheap since no one wants him. We're new orleans so we can't be picky about free agents. They guy can shoot, score efficiently and grab some rebounds. Yeah he sucks on defense and has been kicked around the league but frick it. Its not like what we've been doing has worked.

Why do you think he has been kicked around the league? Seems to be some truth to the rumors that he is a terrible locker room guy and more trouble than he is worth. Hard pass.

No doubt. However, we've been trying to build our locker room with all high character guys and its not like thats gotten us more wins. Hell draymond slugged his teammate in the face in the offseason and they've won 4 titles.

I think the guy can help us win. That's all that really matters to me.

When no team seems to want to keep around a big who can give you 18 & 10 on darn near elite 3 point shooting, that's a huge red flag.

An NBA team with Christian Wood playing rotation level minutes has never won. They're actually usually very bad teams.

He just played with Luka and they won 38 games.

Auto. No.

WCJ is under contract for the next 3 years at 12 million per. That's pennies for a starting level center IMO. The extension stuff we can figure out in 3 years, CJ will be off the books by then, we'll have more clarity on Zion, etc.

I also don't think WCJ is worse than JV...Similar level players to me. Plus I think WCJ is a better fit. He's a better floor spacer, which fits better with Zion and BI, and is more mobile defensively, which is pretty important in our defensive scheme.

Now I don't really know why Orlando would trade him, so I'm thinking this is all a pointless exercise anyway.

We're much more likely to acquire someone from Orlando's glut of guards.

Yea, if they win the lottery, i do think they'll trade him, but they certainly wouldn't want JVal coming back.
