His name was Marcus Thornton, he was black and not chinese but he was an unexpected scorer that blossomed very quickly before our eyes.

Sorry, I don't see the comparison at all. Thornton was a known commodity coming out of college and most of us considered him a steal in the second. He was also never in danger of not making a roster.

He was never a known NBA 20 ppg scorer in this league. Yes we knew his strength was scoring but he blew up in his role in the NBA. If he was in a bigger market and had a funny haircut, it would have been big time headlines.

He also didn't go to Harvard. He was also a recruit out of high school. The list goes on, as Jester has pointed out.

Enough about Marcus Thornton.

he was an under the radar player that blew up surprisingly in the NBA. LSU is the harvard of the south.

the comparisons (however weak they may be) end there. thornton never blew up to the extent Lin has.

on court or in news? Thornton averaged 21 ppg for a season bro.

His rookie year, when he first started getting decent minutes, this was his points games in a row: 20,12,12,19,21,24

definitely adds to the lin story but doesn't automatically discount a under radar player boom comparison.

Jeremy Lin is Taiwanese, don't call someone from Taiwan Chinese, they REALLY don't like that, just saying.

Nor was he ever anywhere near as "under the radar" as Lin.

Doesn't have to be "as" to be a similar comparison. Kobe isn't as good as MJ but it's still comparable.

Jannero Pargo isn't as good as MJ. Good comparison, though.
