This video came up in my recommendations where Herb Jones is redrafted 7th overall and Trey Murphy 8th overall. The Pels basically got the value of two Lotto picks:

After the top 3-5 picks the nba draft is always a crapshoot

nice to get some value where we did

I can't imagine a better offseason than what we had.

I do wonder about the practice of selecting mature players that are ready to contribute immediately. All 3 were older prospects with developed skills. If you look back at others drafts, the younger players have had issues (Hayes, Lewis, even Zion). It kind of makes the selection of Daniels questionable. All the talent in the world, but is going to take time. After all that success, why change it up? Was Daniels just too good to pass up?

Yes, and he has shown it so far this season outside of his end of the lakers game jitters. He is showing some major maturity and flashes already.

Maybe we felt we had enough ready now talent and felt like getting some one who can take a couple years to develop and take the reigns when he is ready.

The video only redrafts the lottery, not the full 1st round.

What's going to take more time on him than those two?

Yep especially considering that our drafting beyond the 4th overall pick has been historically awful.

You could make the argument that was our best scouting/drafting since the year we took Darren Collison in the 1st and Marcus Thornton in the 2nd.

Having that philosophy doesn't mean you have to apply it with every single pick.

Would you argue that we should skip out on Wembanyama with the 1st pick to take the best 4 year senior #1 overall? Nah, there's a time and a place to apply the philosophy, and it's not with every pick.

I have to watch more of him, but I'm not on that train yet. I've seen too many 7ft+ guys fail in the past couple of decades to go that direction, especially given the nature of his game. It'd be different if he was a power player with freakish size (ala Shaq). But he's shooting 3s like Porzingis. I don't see much value in that.

It's just odd to have so much success doing something one year and then the next change it up. I think Daniels has a ton of potential, I still have the same thoughts about Lewis. I just can't see him contributing much this year and that seems like a wasted opportunity..

Agreed. The Dirks,Bosh’s KATs and Durants of the world don’t have much value.

Right now, your top 10 rotation guys are locked in
PG: McCollum/Alvarado
SG: Jones/Graham
SF: Ingram/Marshall
PF: Williamson/Murphy
C: JV/Nance

You have quality depth for the first time, why you change up that philosophy is because you can afford to go after a high ceiling/low floor type of prospect rather than fill rosters with low ceiling, very high floor guys like Herb. And thats an insult to Dyson because his floor is pretty GD high considered.

This is the time you find a guy to groom to overtake a CJ or JV in the next 2-3 years. Filling the roster with B/C players is nice and all, but you need to find an A type player to replace A type players eventually.

He has handles and passing vision like Joker with the range of KP. He's also defensively not slow footed. that's what makes him unique. He actually reach that peak and you're talking a true 1/1 player.
