He fixed Lonzo Ball's shot.

That is what got him the national rep as a shooting coach

Is Phil Handy still available? We should get him if he is.

Good luck fixing Ausar’s shot. That is one horrendous 3 pt shooter.

Good for Vinson though. Although I would say Detroit is a complete mess.

Kind of shocking to me also. It’s like Detroit is keeping Monty with all that money being spent on him. I would’ve thought Langdon would have wanted a new coach.

Stop. We were 7th in 3pt% as a team.

I've posted ad nauseum about a very minor flaw in Dyson's form that impinges his jumper. We're not talking about a complete overhaul of his form, just a simple adjustment of his feet, but it's never been addressed. To me, that's an indictment on Vinson.

I’m not about to say the sky is falling and he’s absolutely irreplaceable, but the sudden “Vinson is overrated and not that good anyway” takes are wild.

Because I am sure you know more than an NBA shooting coach.

he's been trying to expand beyond the shooting niche and I suspect he will have a more significant position in Detroit.

Borrego was never more than a hired gun waiting for the next job opening.

Like Vinson, Langdon has been waiting for a promotion and he got it. I also imagine the front office people he took with him will get raises and or promotions as well.

When we had him coach summer league that year, it was stated that it was about preparing him for more of a leadership role, and then that never happened.

Vinson needed to leave New Orleans if he wanted to advance his career. He didn't do that forever, because of his family, but this is the right move for him.

Herb improved tremendously working with Vinson.

Didn’t Josh Hart wanted to work with Vinson also but he was always busy.

Yeah, Vinson was a very good shooting coach, but to act like he's irreplaceable is a little silly.

Not necessarily. Assuming JB leaves the Pels will lose an associate head coach and Pels can promote from within or hire from outside.

Maybe Vinson asked and was told he would not be promoted here. In that case, yeah, he would need to leave to advance. Or he didn't want to hitch himself to Willie and saw Monty and the Pistons as a better opportunity. How bad the Pistons were, any marked improvement and it's like a "rising tide lifts all boats" thing and maybe Vinson is viewed as a head coach candidate in 2-4 years by virtue of being in right place at right time.

Any coach we have had for our entire existence has been wholly replaceable.

Our team shooting ranking?

Rebuilding Lonzo Ball's shot?

Fixing Herbs shot?

How do you know he isn't a good shooting coach?

Oh, you mean the year the young guys he’s been working with and teaching started hitting their shots? Meaning his training was working? That year?

Not saying Vinson is irreplaceable, but acting like he wasn’t a good shooting coach for us is wild

You mean the year we had our star player healthy for the first time in 3 years with a semi decent coach and offensive system for the first time since like ever?

Several players took leaps in 3pt% last year.

I'm sure we can also find someone that was fine

exactly this. He’s good but not some detrimental piece to a successful team or the progression of a young players shooting. There’s been plenty of young guys that never figured it out under Vinson. Plus like guys have said on Twitter it’ll force Griff to draft/trade for guys who already have shooting prowess and not dog water shooting thinking the shot doctor is going to cure them.
