if memphis wins three of those i will eat my hat.
they are missing best starter forward and one of best off bench.
guys who now get to play who didnt even get off bench before (josh jackson) are not replacing jaren jackson or brandon clarke.
pressure is on brooks. he is folding. averaged 20 with jaren in january. now 10.
cant hit 3.
brooks is sitting in locker room before games knowing he needs 25 to win.
crushing weight of being the man with big new contract, when before you were just a happy thing no one really expected off your two first years.

I have been saying they are grooming him (Gentry) for a front office role. I think Redick too. Don’t know who next coach is but wouldn’t shock me if it’s the guy coaching Didi in Australia right now.

It just makes too much sense..
Gentry is 65, he doesn't have very many coaching years left. We will want a young guy that can be here for 20 years with our guys

For those who might have missed reference to Will Weaver before, he was the GLeague coach of the year for Trajan Langdon in Brooklyn.
quote:
Weaver joined Long Island after spending the last two seasons with the Brooklyn Nets as special assistant to head coach Kenny Atkinson. Before joining the Nets’ organization in 2016, Weaver spent three seasons with the Philadelphia 76ers, most recently in the role of special assistant to head coach Brett Brown. Weaver also serves as an assistant coach with the Australian National Team, a position he has held since 2014. He coached in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

With the Langdon ties it's not crazy to think he's a future Pels coaching candidate.

Yeah but Green and James are probably out for Memphis. I'm sure they're resting and will be back for us. I'd guess Lakers want Memphis in the 8th more than us.
Without question this has been discussed by the Lakers

of course it has.
they can beat MEM without James or green and even if they don’t, they shouldn’t care. I would be pissed if I were a lakertard and they ran James out there against MEM on a sore groin against anyone at this point.
the counterpoint to that is whether they want/need to play those two guys (or Davis) on this BTB at all. The pels game is going to be intense regardless. They’ve made their statement against the pels already and have nothing more to gain from a 48 minute fistfight.
they could grab the win in MEM and punt the pels game, which is the smart move

Nationally televised game v Pels. If Green and LeBron can play tomorrow, they will. The Memphis game is the load management choice.
And, from above, the Lakers don't care who they see in round 1. Obviously we all want the Pels there and they would fight like hell because that's who they are. But unless something unexpected happens, Lakers are beating any of the potential 8 seeds in 4 or 5

re national TV, if they are injured that shouldn’t matter as far as league policy goes. We will know soon enough. As long as they hang the L on MEM I really don’t care
tonites games
LAL -8 at MEM
POR at ATL -1
ORL at SAS -4

Nate silver
538 now has the pels at 72% to make the playoffs
quote:
The Pelicans have been quite good with Zion and everyone healthy. We have them as a ~51-win team over a full season with their current lineup. The Grizzlies are a ~31-win team with their current injuries and a ~35-win team if healthy.

So the Lakers don’t care if they had to face a team in the first round winning at roughly a top 4 seed clip when healthy? That doesn’t even make sense. I can’t imagine them thinking to themselves I want a deeper and more talented team to play in the first round.

The Lakers have been winning at a #1 seed clip all year.
It is not a knock on the Pels. The Lakers are a title contender. The Pels are an 8 seed contender with a very bright future. LA will be, rightfully, supremely confident with any matchup.
We'll see how it goes tomorrow; maybe that changes things. I saw a lot on Tuesday.
IMO, the Pels will fight hard and make LA work because they are a good team. They also don't have answers for the Lakers size or experience this year, which will cost them.

The point is that the Lakers would “rather” face the grizzlies than the Pels. It would be an easier, less physical series. It took a Lebron 40 bomb to uncomfortably beat the Pels when both teams are healthy. Grizzlies would get waxed by the Lakers without Lebron imo

Would obviously love to knock them out in the first round. Second bet would be wearing their arse out so they get bumped in the second round.

I get the point.
I'm saying the Lakers don't give a frick. They believe they will beat whoever in 4 or 5. They aren't worried about a physical series from a team as small as the Pels.
But if it makes you feel better and puff your chest out a little more to say they don't want the Pels, have at it.

I agree. LeBron saw our best defender on him and salivated. As long as he's healthy they don't view the Pels as a serious threat.

Updated odds look great!
The New Orleans Pelicans, Memphis Grizzlies, San Antonio Spurs, Sacramento Kings and Portland Trail Blazers are the contenders for the final playoff spot in the West and a likely first-round matchup with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Both BPI and FiveThirtyEight like the Pelicans here, and an easy schedule down the stretch will help them significantly. Both projection systems have Portland with the second-best chance to make it in.
Chances to make the postseason
NOP: 38% (BPI) | 72% (538)
POR: 24% (BPI) | 10% (538)
SAS: 20% (BPI) | 4% (538)
MEM:12% (BPI) | 7% (538)
SAC: 5% (BPI) | 5% (538

AD saw Zion and went 5/15 in the paint and had to bang bodies with a 280 pound man. Lakers would rather face the lesser opponent. Not sure how anyone could disagree
