They barely over .500 playing a soft schedule up to this point. You think they will continue to play .500 on a hard schedule to finish the year? There’s no way they’re finishing over .500

schedule looks impossible.

but the first 8 games were without valancuinas. they were 1-7 to start.

8 games over .500 since.

and morant missed 4 with back after falling on camera at endline.

win 19 games, pels probably in. beating portland without a top guy seems imperative. i agree with you there.

win 15 games, memphis probably in.
i dont see them making it.
sacto is no pushover at home.

there are no must win games... yet.

any of the teams in 7th thru 10th gets an injury to a top 6 guy, they probably get passed. portland is that guy now.

I'd say if they win 15 they're %100 in.

im expecting pels to utterly dominate their last 15 while memphis goes against playoff teams.

only shot memphis has is if chris paul hamstring ends thunder run.
in that case pels 7th, memphis 8th or some other team 8th.

We are 11 games back of OKC with 27 games to go

Not a chance in hell we catch them

Oh yea.

It would be a rather huge disappointment if we finish up 15-12 given our schedule. And if we do, Memphis would only need to go 11-17 to top us.

What I'm looking for is something along the lines of we go 18-9 while splitting the final 2 games with MEM thus securing the tiebreaker, and Memphis goes 13-15. We both finish 41-41, but we're ahead of them.

And we obviously need SAS and POR to be not quite as good as 18-9 as well.

It's not likely, but wouldn't be the most shocking thing in the world if we pulled it off.

There's definitely hope for Portland to fall off.

According to coach Terry Stotts, Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard could continue to miss time with a groin injury following the All-Star break. In a conversation with NBC Sports Northwest’s Dan Sheldon, Stotts revealed that he doesn’t expect Lillard to practice with the team on Wednesday.

Terry Stotts (on his way back from a Florida vacation) says he doesn't expect Damian Lillard to practice when everyone reunites in Portland tomorrow.

Regarding groin injuries in general: "You never know. Could be a week. Could be a month."

Wow

I know that's a general remark, so maybe not much to read into it, but I just assumed he'd back and ready to go without missing any games.

But yea, I don't wish an injury on anyone, but that would be very helpful for our playoff chances if he's out for any extended period of time. POR has a similarly easy schedule remaining like we do.

Y'all do realize Memphis will play teams who will rest players right?

Will anyone besides the Clippers be resting anyone in the West? The West is a free for all for playoff seeding this year.

Bad teams might start thinking "1, 2, 3, Cancun" now, but good teams usually don't call off the dogs until the last week or 2 of the season. For the rest of Feb and March Memphis will play 17 games against playoff hopefuls and playoff teams, 11 of which are on the road.

I will say that the Pelicans "easy" schedule has been overstated because there are quite a few sub .500 teams fighting for playoff spots this season. The bottom line is that for the Pels to make it they will have get hot and earn it.

We just need to end up with the same record as Memphis at worst, we will own the tiebreaker over them

Not even the clippers will be resting players. No one in the West is pulling away. 1 extra loss could be the difference between 2-6. It’s about to get super competitive in the West.

That's a wash, we will too.

7th is tied with 6th now.
the only benefit i see for teams 2-7 will be home court. there wont be any easy outs 2 thru 7.
does anyone think teams will really care about avoiding lakers 4/5 game when round two is thus instead vs clippers?

im really stoked.

Not just that.

Pels have the easiest schedule, Memphis has the toughest.

So which team would you rather face, the Clippers resting Kawhi on load management. Or the Warriors in full tank mode?

If Memphis continues their win percentage since starting 1-7 they will go 16-12 down the stretch. That would give them a record of 44-38.

The Pelicans would need to go 21-6 to tie them. That is the win percentage of the Lakers.

It is possible to finish 21-6. There are only 7 games against playoff teams remaining with 3 at home and 4 on the road. Win one of those and go 20-0 against non playoff teams and the Pelicans would hit the playoffs hot.

There's a better chance we finish out with at least 21 wins than Memphis finishing out with 16 wins IMO.

16-12 would be extremely impressive going against the toughest schedule in the NBA post all star break.

That's not how things work. You don't just win all the games you're supposed to and lose all the ones you're supposed to.

No one knows that. Teams could be playing for seeding still.
