Griff does not want to take future salary back. The Pels have $150M salary due next season without Ingram, Green and others. They have to pay their first rounder which probably places the Pels near or in the penalty next season. The numbers don't work except for three teams to trade for Brandon. It's better to let Brandon walk then to take salaries. The team needs salary flexibility especially with the point guard situation.

If Griff takes salaries beyond this season, he has to trade CJ or Z. Ms B ain't going to pay any cap penalty. So I expected to see Green or Theis traded.

Theis and Green can refuse a trade because they are on one year deals and it affects their Bird rights.

JRE can go, though, because he has partial Bird rights.

As far as longer term dealing goes, Spotrac claims we have about $30m in tax space next year with the current contracts for 10 guys. That is based on Zion, CJ, Murray, Herb, TM3, Hawk, Missi, GTA, Karli, and Antonio Reeves.

BI, JRE, Theis, Green, picks, and two way guys aren’t in those numbers.

"Is everyone willing to admit now that Herb is in fact touchable ?"

No one should be untouchable, but Herb with his skill set and contract, is very valuable and should be retained unless the deal strongly favors the Pels.

I don't think anyone disagrees with how good Herb is at what he does. I'm just not sure that our timeline lines up with his anymore.

His incredible defense doesn’t matter if he’s shooting 40% from the floor and 30% from 3.

I love Herb and think he may have been playing hurt this year (which might be why it was his worst offensive stretch as an NBA player this year), but there comes a point where great defense simply can’t outweigh bad offense. It’s an offensive league.

If he can’t shoot at least 35-37% from 3, his value plummets as a high level starter in this type of NBA.

I'm not saying he's untouchable. No one is. I was just reply to a guy saying Herb is overrated because he's viewed as the best/premiere defending guard in the league. Pelicans/Herb fan or not, that is not some outrageous statement.

As Herb is just 26 (and a low mileage 26 at that), I don’t want there to be a timeline that doesn’t align with Herb. Of someone wants Herb, they gotta pay through the nose.

Herb will never get his potential here with the coaching staff.

If you have a chance to trade him for a player like Booker with BI, you do it.
