Per Shamit:

quote:

The Larry + Zion units have a -2.07 net rating for the season in 645 minutes.

The JV + Zion units have a +4.81 net rating for the season in 1002 minutes.

You might think it's because they are missing BI.

Larry + Zion + BI is -4.08 on the season
JV + Zion + BI is + 6.26

MAKE IT MAKE SENSE!!!!

It's time to get back to Val at 25-30 minutes a night, and Zion and center by committee the remaining minutes.

We don't need Larry getting 20+ minutes. Or let me rephrase that, we need Larry to not get 20+ minutes any more. 10 is plenty, DNPs should also be in the cards for Larry. Should definitely see more Larry DNPs than 20+ minute games going forward...but we won't.

I actually met a low level analyst who was on the analytics team at the Cavs when Griffin was there. He raved about Griffin and how smart / how much he used analytics. It seems like we’ve completely ignored analytics since he’s been here. My feeling is that Willie does not seem to put much stock into it. He doesn’t seem to pick his lineups based on it at least.

Willie not being extended is very telling. I really like Willie and want him to succeed here and think he’s done a lot of good. But a lot of coaches max out at bottom 4 playoff team, and I think that’s what Willie is. I think he can take a group of players and have a winning record and make the playoffs, but he’s not coaching a team to a deep playoff run.

I don't know the ins and outs or machinations of a coach's relationship to the front office in the NBA, but it would seem to me that Griff is on board and they're working in lock step here.

Meaning, I don't know how it usually works and I'm not talking about a tweak here or there, I'm saying when a playoff berth is on the line and we keep playing Larry over Val consistently, if Griff thinks that is just obviously wrong, he is the boss of Willie. At some point you have to make mandates I'd think.

Again, maybe that never happens? I don't know and don't really care to be honest lol. Make the mandate, and if Willie doesn't get the message for the better, then we get a new coach, which is what we should be doing either way. Even if Willie agrees and is all for it, the fact that someone else had to tell him to do it is still a major problem.

I think it’s incredibly hard to for a GM to force his coach to play guys certain minutes. Too many variables during games. What makes more sense to evaluate the coach in the off season and make a change.

If the GM has to tell the coach how to use your centers, then your better off replacing the coach.

I think Griff prefers to have input on rotations. Remember one of the key points in firing SVG is that he kept playing Bledsoe and Griff wanted him to play the younger guards. Due to Nance’s contract and influence on the organization, it would not surprise me if Griff is largely responsible for playing Nance. In fact using JV less now makes it easier to walk away from JV in the offseason citing “oh he didn’t fit our style and wasn’t being productive”- when we all know this is bullshite. Regardless, whether Willie gets retained or not Griff needs to stop being a bit of a control freak.

This is probably why I'd make a terrible GM

I do agree but I think right now is a specific end of year sequence where we obviously can't fire Willie right now, but man, it could legit help the team to give him more of a mandate. I know games and minutes allocation are fluid, but just no more of the Val gets 0 minutes in the 2nd half while Nance plays 22+ type shite. Get that through his head...any means necessary lol.

Willie has to be gone after this season. frick…after last night when three of his players get thrown out he still stands there like a cuck.

He lost the players last night and that is his only attribute. It surely isn’t a and Os.

The misuse of Jonas has been a problem for Willie all season, but especially down the stretch.

Jonas was averaging 28 minutes a game in November and December.

January and February he averaged 22 minutes a game.

March it was down to 18.5 minutes a game.

With the way we've been lately, hard to understand not going back to that. I suppose the change coincided with Zion running point more, but the results are what they are.

Analytics worked in Cleveland because LeBron was there in his prime. What happened to the analytics when LeBron departed to Los Angeles?
