re: STH Price increasesPosted by touchdownjeebus

I used to make my money back or damn near back in just a few games a year.
It was the principle for me. I did the same for my saints tickets too. They raised the prices so I bailed. I get it that things are more expensive, but I gave you an interest free loan and you couldn’t freeze my shite for one season?

The NBA, the billionaire owners and millionaire players need to do a reality check. A 20% increase in season tickets is ridiculous. Do they think that the fans are a bottomless pit of cash cows? People are already getting decimated by gas, food, housing costs, etc inflation.
If the owners are suffering financially, due to increasing costs, then they should ask the NBA to REDUCE the salary cap. I always thought that players are overpaid anyway. If say Devonte's salary was reduced from 12 mill/yr to 4 mill/yr, would he be lining up at a food bank? Even at 4 mill/yr, he's still making 2X the salary of a brain surgeon. Does that make any sense?

I say this as a physician, but yes, it makes perfect sense. Welcome to capitalism. And there are less people in the world who can do what Graham does than there are brain surgeons.

No it shouldn't go directly into the pockets of the owners. It should go to the increased costs of the owners, so STH don't have to get dinged 20%.
Decreased salaries could also be put toward reducing individual ticket prices, so the fans can catch a break for a change, rather than the rich just getting richer. The rich = the NBA, owners and players.

If I were more cynical than I am (maybe not possible) - I'd look at a series of events like:
- Make most of your games unviewable in your local market
- Make no/minimal improvements to your arena
- Shrug off security issues around your arena (or maybe worse, use it as a chance to sell parking passes)
- Raise ticket prices double digit percentages in consecutive years
...and I'd think the team was actively trying to drive down fan interest to better justify a sale or move.
Gayle has done a ton of good in this city, but it's foolish to think she doesn't know how to play that game - she was married to the master.
