He's started 100 of 150 games the past 2 seasons. Averaging 20 MPG.

Jonas for example played 25 MPG.

Would I love to keep Jonas & add Gafford, absolutely.

but this team needs 2 things to happen to take a leap(aside from health): a rim protecting big man and a true guard who can truly complement an offense (passing, scoring, shooting).

Gafford isn’t going to require us to give up valuable assets to get him. He’s cheap and is a good enough center with good mobility. Thats why. Every other center is going to cost a first or two. For me I’m tired of losing first round picks to keep getting new centers that don’t help us win.

We have a legitimate star duo in Zion/BI with a trio likely (hopefully?) emerging this year with Trey.

Trey is your big time 3rd piece? Lol

We have another potential young talent piece in Dyson.

He’s going to be Kira 2.0. People wait and wait and wait and wait and it never happens.

We have enough draft capital to go all-in TWICE, still, and that's ignoring if we include a young piece.

What in the frick are you on? Lol

People want to blow our load for a super-old, aging/declining guy like Dame but if we want to make an all-in move, we need to wait on a real star with years left on the tread, namely Giannis, Embiid, or Luka.

Oh for sure they can stay together. From a cap standpoint. Now wether or not Dyson pushes BI or Z out the door when his pay day comes is the only question. I know that sounds like a crazy thought but, man that guy looked

Trey can be a number 2 on a title team. His ceiling is ridiculous.

And yet still hasn't proved he can anchor the position in extended minutes yet. Maybe he can. Maybe he can't. I'm not betting on it by trading JV for a guy who hasn't made that leap yet.

Jonas “anchored” (if that’s what you want to call it) our defense for 24.9 minutes per game last season, Gafford played 20.6 minutes per game last season. Do you really think his play would greatly diminish if he played 4 more minutes per game?

ETA: Gafford played 24.9 minutes per game from January 1st through the end of the season (41 games), and had a DIFF% at the rim of -7.9% during that span. To give you an idea of where that places him, the two players ranked above him on the list are Jarrett Allen and Rudy Gobert, and the two below him are Mitchell Robinson and Anthony Davis.

We literally just saw MPJ be the 3rd piece on a title team.

Trey was playing at a similar level at the last portion of last year.

Keeping Jonas isn't about being an anchor. It's about being an expiring contract. I much rather let JV expire and not waste anymore resources on a rotational big. If we are going to make a move for a big he needs to be an anchor who has proven to play big minutes.

If not, get a big or two in the draft. We simply wasted enough resources on big men who turned out to be less than ideal.

Harris.

I wouldn't be against this but in all likelihood they are going to trade him for another center. Hopefully a cheaper one.

You think a 6'10 dude that just flirted with a 50/40/90 season can't be lol. He's only 23, and is going to be a fricking monster for the next 10 years.

No two team compositions are alike, so you can dismiss whatever similar #3 has ever existed on a title team.

We need that contract to deal for another contract.

We'll still be over the cap with or without JV's contract. What advantage do we have by losing it?

We're not signing an impact FA, especially at the MLE

So you don't want Gafford because he isn't proven, but you want the team to let Jonas expire and then draft a couple bigs and have that be your center rotation?

We need to free money for Trey's extension that's coming up and we can use some of those exceptions next season to sign players when we're not up against the line.

That's going to fold into the void of CJ's deal.

Yes. I don't value rotational bigs with a big enough contract to affect our ability to re-sign our own guys. Simple as that.

That's an assumption that it'll fall that way. BI's extension is coming up as well. We need to be responsible how we spend.
