quote:Not feasible. Basketball capacity at UNO is under 9,000 and has little or no suite capacity.
There is no reason the Pels couldn't play at UNO while the new arena is built. Just put a little bit of money in it to make it semi-NBA playable and move on.

If only the new PMAC was built already.
I mean they could always play in the dome for a season.

It’s a shithole. Seriously what else needs to be studied?

UNO Lakefront Arena has a bunch of renovations done. Much nicer and a better concert venue than SKC.

A new riverside arena isn’t feasible because it would take DOTD ten years to redo port routes.
A new arena needs to be built on the grounds of Champions Garage/Lots3-3A.
The Club 44/New Orleans Center food court needs to be gutted. An actual sports and entertainment district needs to be built that connects both venues and can create revenue.
On the existing SKC property, you can create a two story garage and then potentially hold the natural grass field on top when NFL makes the team switch.
The city built a $250m arena on a $100m budget 25 years ago. There is no feasible way they can simply get by with renovations.

NO - 5 years sounds about right

They will propose a massive renovation or a new arena probably where New Orleans centre parking garage is. The Pelicans and LSED will then make a joint decision and come up with a funding mechanism ever since the blowup about the Saints payment the sides have been working well together behind the scenes once Mrs Benson and the governor involved. Despite people’s initially worries the new governor is very supportive of moving big projects in NOLA forward I believe he was instrumental in pushing the new Omni CC hotel forward we shall see what happens

Rumors the the MGM Beau in Biloxi is ready to build a 18,000 seat arena if they know they can get a professional team. Plenty of land on Gulf Coast . NHL looked at the area but likely will expand to Atlanta and Quebec City .

If I recall the state of Louisiana built the SKC and not the city

Why would they build something that big? No team is coming to Mississippi unless it’s G League, indoor football, minor league hockey

While I agree, the league is leaning towards natural grass.

You’re right, I misspoke. It was still done on a shoestring budget because Mike Foster didn’t care for New Orleans. He only liked coming to the city for the Louisiana Sportman Show in the Dome.

Ive heard of this, but don’t think it has legs. Maybe they’re shooting for opportunities for bigger shows and concerts.

Next to existing site is the best site and what we will see, but stll some challenges. 1) The logistics of tearing down that lot and rebuilding on that site are insane and will probably require closing Girod for several years which impacts access to the dome, especially for supply and loading access. 2) Can the City/state move the post office facility to create more room.

I’m sure the state would ask Gayle to put in a healthy donation. She stands to gain potentially an extra $500m when the league expands.

City Hall/Civil District Court would be a great site, but you'd have to have a plan for City Hall and CDC.
You'd have to have an alternative site for both CH and CDC built first and then tear down those buildings and start building.
CH and CDC are total dumps, and they have been trying to move both for years and years unsuccessfully.

I’m not so sure an entirely new arena is necessary. Most of my complaints are morecosmetic than structural. Or the refurbishing can be done within the existing structure.
I doubt there’s much of an appetite to demolish the existing arena and construct a new one.

This is not actually true my guy
Most of the complaints come from the league and the state itself.
The Arena is too outdated behind the scenes for what modern arenas can do.
It also cannot make money like other arenas can for a variety of reasons.

It’s not fancy, but it doesn’t “suck arse”…
That’s a little extreme. Other arenas I’ve seen are not really functionally different.

Its consistently rated by people who rate stadiums as the worse Arena in the NBA.

Stop. JUST STOP. STOP accepting dogwater for New Orleans. Ask these people to be better.
The SKC is bottom 5 arena in the league.
No one says it needs to be Oracle, but damn, be better.
