So can't use stats or team record to show how good a player is. Got it.

Given that a team is required to play 5 players at all times, it is most certainly a really shitty metric. I wouldn't expect a Rockets fan to understand the nuances of statistical analysis, though (especially not one dumb enough to call Morcee a top GM in the league).

I think the Rockets will do quite well this season if Dwight is his old self, I just think the Pelicans can hang with them matchup wise. I expect the Pelicans to be in the 3rd tier of playoff teams 7-11 and the Rockets will probably be in the 2nd tier 3-6.

Do you know what the Magic miss most about Dwight? How did I miss this last year?

quote:

The Orlando Magic are going to miss Dwight Howard on the basketball court, but mostly they're going to miss his farting.

What? Yes.

Farting. That's what Orlando forward Glen Davis said (via The Orlando Sentinel's Josh Robbins) when asked what the Magic would miss most without Howard.

"The thing we're going to miss most about Dwight," Davis said. "Is his farting ability."

"A great farter," he contined. "He can fart. He can fart loud -- the loudest farts. Silent farts."

Read that again. Reader, I laughed out loud while writing down those words. But we should not be all that surprised. From a 2009 Sports Illustrated cover story:

"He (Howard) fools around at practice, during press conferences and during shootaround, where Magic coach Stan Van Gundy has had to institute a no-flatulence rule because, as forward Rashard Lewis says, 'Dwight really likes to cut the cheese.' "

We're paying children 10s of millions a year to cut the cheese.

Kaman signed with Lakers for the mini-mid level. Hopefully the scraps that are left at C are getting desperate.

I did notice all the fart references in the article, but had no idea what they were all about:

quote:

The madness is nearly over, just like that. Dwight Howard has taken his farts to Houston, finally, and may God have mercy on all our souls.

quote:

But sign-and-trades still help teams on the verge of losing their own star free agents, and the Warriors understood that if Howard told the Lakers “I’m taking my farts to Golden State,” the Lakers would have had an incentive to construct some sort of deal sending him there.

quote:

The Lakers would have happily paid a giant tax bill this season had Howard farted on their dotted line.

So what do we judge players on if we can't use stats and records?

I'll give New Orleans credit. They've put together a bunch of stat stuffers from losing teams. I'm sure it will all work out for them. Here's to you guys hoping to get the 8th seed

Context. Stats without context are meaningless. You are using stats without context.

Howard just chumped it up on an all-star roster, so there's that.

Funny how a shred of success breeds arrogance in these Houstards.

His stats weren't good on a playoff team. You know, when he was surrounded with solid players. They weren't good when he was "the guy". But whatevs, Jrue is a top 5 talent fo sho!

The Lakers won more games in 1/2 a season than the Hornets did all year. Howard was also good enough to carry a bad Magic team to the playoffs 2 seasons ago.

It must suck to know that the Rockets have 2 guys that can carry a team to the playoffs and the Pelicans have 0.

You do realize that Houston was the 8th seed last year? I would be just fine making the playoffs this year after not winning 30 games last year. Not much of an insult there.
