re: Rockets target Anderson. Pelicans have NOT shown interest in Omer Asik.

If Parsons were to ever get dealt (he won't), it certainly would not be along with Asik for just Ryan Anderson.
And to your division rival

Gotta agree with SFP and Gyno. We can find a SF who can shoot the 3 at a decent rate pretty much any offseason (still have a few available like Dorell Wright and Carlos Delfino). Finding a center that can play defense like Asik is nearly impossible unless you're willing to shell out big bucks. We can trade Ryno for a very talented defensive center to help out Davis and then get a 3 point shooter to play SF for much cheaper than Ryno's contract, although it will likely be a slight step down in shooting performance.

I we get Parsons, that is the team that you let gel for a year and make a serious run with just a little depth.

I don't think anyone disagrees with this, but the question is if its worth giving up our best shooter for it
check the context -- the guy I was responding to apparently DID disagree with it (said there wasn't a point to getting Asik b/c Davis could be our defensive big)
and yeah, it's worth it. there are still good 3-pt shooters available *right now* let alone in next year's free agency and/or draft. elite defensive 5s? not so much.

I'm a fan of the Rockets and Pels. This trade is exactly what both teams need and both fanbases won't like it....which means its probably a fair trade.
Asik's cap hit is only $8M+ per for the next two years so its a great contract for a good NBA 5. His low post game and PnR game will aggravate the shite out of you because his hands are awful and he has no offensive game..... but defensively, he's as good as there is in the game, rebounds very well, and actually became a decent free throw shooter this year. Tough guy too. You'll love him on the defensive side but will be frustrated as hell on the offensive end.
As for the Rox, well, Anderson would be a perfect fit. He's a true stretch 4, not like some of the names mentioned above by somebody. He'll fit the Rox offense really well and it'll be back to the Olajuwan offense with everyone hanging back shooting 3's with the big man in the middle. Although, no sane person would mistake Howard for Hakeem. The issue though is that Houston still needs a lockdown defensive wing which Josh Smith could be so I'm sure that's the debate with the Rox right now. Parsons can be a good defender on the wing, but he's not exactly elite at it. And for the record, I know I saw Parson's name mentioned in a trade with Anderson. Forget about that. With his contract, he's almost as untouchable as Harden, maybe moreso.
Good luck.

You could say the same about the Center though. The question is which is going to play a bigger role in us becoming a contender and which is more easily replaceable
The answer is probably Ryno, but I would really hate to see him go. He just seems like the type of guy you like having around your organization

What 3 point shooters that can also do what Ryno does all around can we get for the money we have?
Delfino?
Delfino?

Both are better at getting to the basket than 3 point shooting, then again, Gordon did just come off of one of his worst seasons statistically from 3. Hopefully that was just a fluke
Champ - Yeah, I don't disagree, just playing devil's advocate

Delfino and Dorell Wright jump out at me right away. Wright's current contract is 4M, we've got that. Delfino made 3M

not elite defensive centers
look at guys like splitter, or chandler. they're getting 9-10M per. if we're at/over the cap, we can't get one without giving up a player. we WILL have the ability to try to sign 3 point shooters every year

i agree with this, but

Yeah, that's probably true
Dell has certainly done that

Rockets get more help out of the deal than we do. We trade a weakness for another.
Rockets get substantially better.
They need to add more. Parsons.

Parsons ain't happening. He's untouchable because of his 2nd rd contract.

this assumes the rockets don't trade asik for somebody who helps them out, though. it's a wash argument
Posted on 7/6/13 at 12:38 am to Fun Bunch
I dont know, man. Asik is 1 of 6 centers who averaged a double double. He was the only one to play all 82 games. Obviously defensive metrics support that he is a top level defender. And we now have Dwight Howard, Marc Gasol, and Tim Duncan to contend with in our division. Jeff Withey and Jason Smith. Think about it.
