I feel like the Hornets want more than just Klay. But I don't think GS is giving up Barnes. Who knows

Anyone remember which site had the info on the guaranteed money on guys we got this offseason like Lopez, Warrick, Lewis, etc?

I'm trying to figure out if any of the GSW guys with shitty contracts (Jefferson, Biedrins, etc.) can be bought out for less than their player option like we did with Rashard Lewis.

All I'm seeing is the player option amount on Hoopshype which is their full contract amount if they start the season on the roster.

EDIT - Found what I'm looking for... the site is Hoopsworld.

If we had to take Richard Jefferson on, his next year is a player option that he'd almost certainly pick up. Maybe there's a glimmer of hope that if we just bench him all year, he'd rather play than just collect a check, but I doubt it.

He or Biedrins would both come off the books in 2014, when the real FAs hit the market...

This FA class is thin, thin

Expiring contracts are flippable, depending on who you are willing to take in return.

It's also possible to buy him out if someone is willing to bid on him as a FA, though we don't recoup much cap room unless he gets about $2m or more.

You would have to make that known before he even picks up the option, and I could see the union filing a grievance on it. I don't see any way he decides to turn down $10M because he doesn't want to sit. I'd be thrilled if my boss sent me home with a check for $10M.

It's gotta be that. No way do the Warriors think they can get Gordon and unload a bad contract for less than Thompson. It wouldn't have advanced this far if that was their view. But even if the Hornets throw in a 1st for Barnes that still leaves a hole at SF for the Warriors when this is a win now move. They either have to like Aminu to replace Barnes or a 3rd team that can send them a SF would have to get involved.

What about Denver? They've got Wilson Chandler pissed off about a lack of playing time because they're stacked at the 3.

This is getting harder and harder in the NBA. Kaman is the perfect example. Expiring contracts today are basically trade filler. It allows you to trade for talent you couldn't normally get by throwing in an expirer in exchange for a shitty, longer term contract.

Someone would have to make it worth it to Denver. As discussed, I don't see a third team involved. That trade proposal is getting more and more bloated.

What I thinking was more along the lines of fliping our bad contract for a different team's bad contract for various reasons.

For example, we could flip Biedrins or Jefferson to Charlotte for Ben Gordon, whom they desperately want out of the locker room, and see what we could get for our trouble.

It's all about the repeater tax penalties.

Great read from Ziller today about the effects of this

But now, one of those quirks is making itself known during the 2012-13 NBA trade season, and it's time to ignore real basketball for a second and bust out the spreadsheet and count some beans. The repeater tax has arrived, and this is not going to be pretty. What is the repeater tax? It's a clause in the new collective bargaining agreement that raises the luxury tax rate for teams that are serial tax payers. It doesn't actually go into effect until 2014-15 as a penalty, but what teams do now affects whether they'll be on the hook then. Basically, if you exceed the tax threshold in three out of the previous four seasons, you're on the hook for the higher tax if you exceed the threshold again. The "clock" began last year. The first year of the repeater tax is in 2014-15. Only teams that have been taxpayers in 2011-12, 2012-13 and 2013-14 will pay it. In 2015-16, teams that have paid the tax in three out of four of those seasons will pay repeater tax. Then 2011-12 falls off. And so it goes

Small marketteams like the Hornets have to really think 5 years down the line after the extend rookies and how they will avoid penalties they cannot pay. Even teams like the Lakers appear to be spooked by the tax penalties

Yeah, I think it'd pretty much be someone with a SF of similar value to Aminu that fit the Warriors better. Denver actually might be your best bet, but it'd probably be Brewer rather than Chandler. Brewer is expiring and has less trade value, but he is a better perimeter shooter than Aminu so might fit the Warriors better.
