I've got some reservations about Trae myself, but I don't really see the argument for keeping the powder dry because the grass will be greener later. It looks like the grass will be the same color later.

if moving BI for Trae make the Pels better, then I'm in. I don't want to move BI for the sake of moving.

Agreed. We probably could get Darius Garland for less than that. Rumors are if Mitchell signs, Garland is going to demand a trade.

Garland isn't in the same ball park as Young

No way Pelicans are giving up that many first rounds with Bryson Graham as GM. The main reason he got the promotion was because he was good at creating draft boards and players’ analysis. That’s his bread and butter.

I would hope not, but if CajunMD is to be believed, that is supposedly what it would take to get Young. That’s why I used it as an example.

Again, it’s about cost. BI, Nance, and a few firsts for Young is much easier to stomach. Giving up everything for Young is a complete dealbreaker for me. If he comes here and it doesn’t work, there’s no way to come close to recouping that value.

There's one thing we know about Trae Young.

He's never played with Peak Zion before.

He is a bit undersized. Struggles with Jokic and Embiid type players.

I like how you say "type players" when you already completed the list.

Everyone struggles with Jokic and Embiid. That's why they're top-5 players and MVP-level guys.

And Jokic/Embiid have combined for one title, so it appears teams with 5s who can't handle them can still win titles.

Also can’t shoot 3s.

Irrelevant. He's fine from midrange, which creates the proper spacing. He can also pass well from the elbow and outside of the post, so he's complete (for a 5) offensively

Are we arguing the viability of Bam Adebayo on the Pels?

Cause that would be stupid.

We’re arguing unloading everything for Bam and being title contenders. Even with Garland and Bam- I don’t see us contending for titles.

I like Bam but hes not making you a title contending team. Thats basically the point. Thats a good team but in the end hes not going to transform you into a contender.

To top it off hes nowhere near attainable so this is a useless argument.

How long are we waiting? Currently we have BI, all of our picks, and 2 extra picks to trade. After the draft next offseason, that goes down to all of our picks and 1 extra pick.

Other than trading the entire team for Boston's, I don't think any one or two moves makes them title contenders next year.

What realistic moves make them title contender next year?

There aren’t any but SFP whole argument for not trading for Trae is to save up assets and make this team title contenders. I think thats just a pipe dream. Living in reality- I would go after Trae who seems attainable.

I don't speak to SFP's motivations, but I agree with this statement. I just need to have a puncher's chance at winning in the playoffs. I don't see BI and CJ as part of the top 3 Pels players giving them that chance. Does Trae? I don't know, but something has to be done.

I would vomit. I'd honestly rather run it back over that and one of the last things in the world I want to do is run it back.

We can make moves with similar (possibly better) impacts than Trae this offseason while maintaining the pick war chest (and CJ's contract) for that elite guy to finish the roster.

Then we set our ceiling well below title contention and may be closer to playoff-contention if we use the war chest to get him

Let's hear that hypothetical.
