I hadn't thought of Mambo, which is not my first choice but pretty cool.

Kingfish is pretty decent too.

I agree that I liked the logo, but ArcAngels doesn't flow very well and would probably get shortened to Angels and Angels just isn't very menacing for a sports identity. Granted it's pretty much on par with those dirty, bounty hunting Saints, but I think we can find a name that won't need to change the perception of the word to fit the team.

How about a name that represents the whole state.

That's probably the route to go if we end up with Pelicans.

This is laughable. How many other team names are menacing?

ETA: people keep whining about the new name not having national or global appeal, and not being menacing, but not many other names out there for any sport satisfy what people are asking our new one to do.

Not enough of them.

In general I don't think it matters. Tbis isn't high school. The mascot tends to take on the personality of the organization, not the other way around. People will like the new team name because it will be pounded into their skull like a Katy Perry song. That being said, I'd still prefer a name that is more inline with the spirit of competitive pro sports. Some of these softies just don't do it for me.

So you shot down a name because it wasn't menacing enough, then you said menacing doesn't matter?

Yes. We all have our personal preferences, but in the end what name is chosen really doesn't matter. The amount of exposure and marketing muscle behind the name will make it stick and whether it's seen as a winner or loser will largely be determined by the on court product. The primary benefit of choosing the "right" name would be to help sell merchandise to more casual fans who might not buy a jersey or hat for the Hornets but would for the <MostAppealingMascot>.

Kinda butthurt this thread didn't get the sticky. It had good discussion of the topic at hand, and some really good logos.

Should at least merge the two.

The other one was started after this one reached six pages.

The only good logo in that Krewe mock up is the NOLA one that already exists. That Fleur De Lis is really amateur looking, and the music not isn'y much better really. The unis themselves arent awful but I'm not real into the numbers being that font.
