Loomis publicly says (while at the Sr bowl in the middle of basketball season lol) he has no involvement with the Pelicans & people are still trying to act like everyone should be fine with him being involved with the team.

He shouldn’t even advise. He doesn’t know shite about basketball

Can’t tell diehard Saints fan that Loomis shouldn’t be there. They take it as talking shite about the Saints.

Luckily, it seems like he is out.

this is the woman's first attempt at breaking from the mold her husband bequeathed her. i use bequeathed here because she did dick (literally) to get these franchises. she wasn't invested to the degree tom was, and i think this will be a moment she shows she's a bad bitch that isn't to be trifled with.

This goes against everything I've heard about Tom, Gayle and the NOLA Basketball franchise.

What I've heard several time from multiple people is that it was Tom that had no interest in basketball and when Shinn cashed in and fled town and the Association had to step in and take over proxy ownership it was Gayle who urged Tom to step up and invest in the franchise to keep it in New Orleans. While I don't think that means she is a "basketball person" iirc it's been said that she knows enough to recognize what the Hornets/Pelicans meant to NOLA and what a successful/winning NBA franchise could do for the city and region. But long story short it was her vision not Tom's that is the reason the Pelicans are in NOLA today.

I'm sure there are many who know and understand more about it than me and will correct me if I'm off.

His level of advise is likely more business oriented and not basketball operations oriented. He and Lauscha advise Gayle (and Tom previously) on all of their businesses.

That is what I have heard as well. Machine certainly does not know the inner workings of the Benson businesses and just doing his normal trolling act.

100% true. close to someone high up on the team at that time. she was meeting employees very soon (if not immediately) after the sale. at one point, rumor was she wanted the team to be renamed Spirit w/ green+gold (?) unis iirc

I don't think that means she is a "basketball person"

the fact that "basketball person" for the owner is even in this debate is ludicrous. she doesn't have to be a basketball person. rather, the hope is she builds an organization littered with sharp basketball people. quite easy to argue that neither she nor tom have done that to this point

what a successful/winning NBA franchise could do for the city and region

it seems like it given the past couple of weeks. and machine isn't wrong to say this is her chance to rebrand the organization in her image.

The last thing this team needs is the same colors as the Seattle SuperSonics

full quote (it was from a podcast)

quote:

Whenever a GM job comes open in the NBA now, Griffin’s name is one of the first to come up. Most recently that was with the Pelicans (although the buzz All-Star Weekend is that things never really got too serious between the sides). Griffin is open to returning to the NBA, but he’s in a position to be picky about the gig he takes now.

“I think the blessing of doing what I’m doing relative to NBA TV is selectivity,” Griffin said. “It’s helped me be radically better at analyzing things than maybe I wouldn’t have been as good at. As I look at it now, the thing that would attract me to an opportunity is just the opportunity to be in lockstep with ownership. To have ownership, the coach, and the front office all on the same page moving forward and sharing a vision…

“You have to raise a family, and if you’re not going to come at it with that approach it’s probably not a situation that would speak to me.”

Curious as to why there is a comment that "things never got too serious between the sides." Was there an expectation that they would be that far down the road already and/or are they suggesting that Griffin is no longer being considered?

Yeah, they’re working with an outside firm so they may not even have a shortlist yet. I I wouldn’t expect much at this point. They may not even do many interviews until the season ends. They didn’t name Ferry Interim GM because they would be hiring someone this week.

He was never 'in' to begin with other than a proxy for Benson in the final stages of dementia.

TBW had all of their writers talk about GM candidates they're interested in. A lot of the same names we've seen here, Zarren, Griffin, Ferry, and Trajan Langdon. A few names we haven't discussed much here of note though

Troy Weaver, OKC's #2, has been given a good bit of the credit for their personnel evaluation and moves.

Shane Battier, currently head of player development and analytics for the Heat. He's pretty interesting to me because he got 4 years of Coach K in college, has a ton of Pat Riley experience, and his experience as a player was pretty unique too. I would view Battier kind of like Langdon, he'd be a good GM/#2 candidate if you hire one of the bigger names as POBO/#1.

More details on the different candidates at the LINK

Battier would be a massive risk.

As a #1, I agree, same as Langdon, but if they're hiring a strong POBO and we're talking about the #2 position that reduces the risk.
