At Hornets prax. Monty says Matt Carroll and Dell Demps "working on" some things -- sounds like a buyout in the works for Carroll.

lulz

Also, not really surprising. It seemed like a distinct possibility. Carroll will probably retire and become an assistant somewhere in the future.

So when is he signing the contract extension?

Why buy him out? He is an expiring contract right? Maybe to clear cap space for a big trade in the works?

That's a good question. I don't think buying him out saves any cap space at all, though.

well, he's making 500K less than Warrick, and Warrick wasn't seeing the court anytime soon. so the Hornets saved money in the trade.

But that doesn't answer the question of why we buy him out. I guess the only explanation is that we never had an interest in involving him in our plans. We took him on to save $500,000 and now giving him the opportunity to play elsewhere or retire.

Right. Hornets are currently at $63.4M Even if you got Carroll to retire and come off the books you'd still be above the cap. Either Demps needs the roster space, like Eric Gordon for Brandon Jennings and a lot of filler, or he's just saving money. I'm leaning towards the latter which also suggests we won't see a significant trade this year with the Hornets cashing in a bundleable $4M trade chip.

Assuming Carroll can catch on with a team for the Veteran Minimum, Demps saved Mr. Benson $1.5 Million by swapping Warrick for a ready to be bought out Carroll. Who knows, maybe that money will be used to buy Voodoo. I'd trade Warrick for Voodoo.

The Hornets seem to be working a Pay to Stay Away plan with some regularity.

So basically Dell is signing Carroll to a well deserved max contract?

Unfortunately, that means we are looking to save even more money. And the entire deal was all about cash and cost us a trade asset. That's too bad.

If he gets bought out, the buyout is still on the books. See Lewis.

Him signing else could give small relief, but it's no major help.

Considering Dell is kinda up there is Basketball Ops and doesn't think like a child, he could very well be working on making Carroll understand his role, team expectations, or what the lunch order is from Cane's.

Kidding on the last... they eat healthier!

Good points. I still want to believe it's part of the Voodoo fund. *fingerscrossed*

Warrick wasn't a trade asset except for possible filler to make salaries match, but we already have guys like that. There's nothing wrong with a team trying to save money when it has no effect on the quality of the team, which this trade has not.

The Warrick trade had a lot to do with giving the guy a chance to get minutes. Monty said as much. They saw that they could save money and give Warrick to a team that actually could give him some minutes. Monty said he felt bad to have Warrick stuck behind our depth in a contract year.
