I'm on my phone right now but I'll come up with a bit of a more thought out and concrete answer but off the top of my head, he's done a fairly decent job with player development IMO. Aminu, Rivers, GV come to mind.

Two seasons ago at least he had a team that had no reason to be competitive and made that a team that was actually fun to watch.

And there has to be a reason he was a coach on team USA.

Again I'll make a more substance filled post later when I get home.

FWIW, Avery Johnson was at the Superdome the other day and had a meeting with Rita, according to my sources. Take that for what it's worth.

Aren't occasional Avery sightings with the Benson's somewhat common?

My buggest fear is that if we do fire Monty, Avery will be next in line.

A lot of people can be great assistants but bad head coaches. I think Monty can probably help perfect another system that's already in place. Just not strong at doing it from scratch and his doing

Said this back in the day, he's very well respected in the NBA community

Surely not for his accomplishments as a head coach.

I'm sure Hubie Brown is respected too.

You don't think Pop would get something out of Smith on that end?

Yeah, lets compare one of the best coaches of all time who for 13 seasons has had 2 future hall of famers to any coach in the NBA.

quote:

We're going nowhere with Monty as the coach of this team. He doesn't fit the players he has and we don't have the climate to build him whatever team he needs.

Monty is a defensive minded coach with 2 guards that are widely considered to be top tier on ball defenders (Gordon and Holiday). He has a SF in Aminu who is considered one of the best defensive SF in the league. He has Davis who is one of the best PF/C defenders in the league as well. Don't tell me he doesn't have the players to fit his defensive minded scheme.

Probably has more to do with the All-Star game.

I'm far from a Monty defender, at best he's a mediocre coach. That being said, you can't really judge him or the team during this road trip without Davis and Tyreke. We have about seven and a half nba players on our roster: Davis, Holiday, Anderson, Gordon, Smith, Evans, Aminu and kind of Morrow. We can't function with two of those guys out. Especially not against good teams. Just don't expect anything until Davis is back

i realize that the minutes are partially due to a blowout, but still…that was the available bench last night. more than half of them should not be on an active NBA roster
