Crazy that Tatum isn't getting much love
32/7/4 with a better ts%
On the best team in the league through 15 games

I think Tatum is incredible and probably top 5 in the league right now

I don’t buy the Mavs as a scary playoff team with Doncic. They really fricked up by not bringing Brunson back. I called it before the season. Their team is really Doncic/ Wood and have to get lucky to see if someone else gets hot. A lot of teams in the NBA are not deep this year and are relying on the top 2-3 guys to pull the weight.

SGA deserves some love too. Dude is a baller and is also making his teammates better/ OKC a competitive team.

To be fair. Jax was also taking goofy shots in warmups when he started for like 30 straight games.
I just think Trey Murphy, Naji, Nance and now Dyson fit what we are trying to do better. I honestly don’t think anything happened other than he isn’t as smart of a basketball player as a lot of our other options.
Jax’s advantage is size and athleticism, but in today’s nba the 4 guys I just listed above can basically switch 1-5, and they just have better defensive instincts than Jax overall. Also, Jax doesn’t really fit offensively unless we play him as a rim running and pick and roll 5 man. Problem is, we can’t play him as a 5 on defense. And we have so much offensive talent, we aren’t going to rearrange our offensive schemes to best fit Jaxson.

I think we can all agree that Larry had alot to do with Jax being the end of the bench player, where he belongs. But the emergence of Trey this season has made Jax unplayable. Trey might be just as athletic, not quite as big, but can do everything we wanted Jax to do.

He is definitely not as athletic as jax. No big deal because most aren’t, jax is probably one of the most athletic players in the league. Unfortunately for him, that is all he has to offer.

Trey seems to be big-dicking his way toward 6th Man consideration.

Doncic is extremely talented.
But I'm starting to get some Harden vibes.
He dominates the ball so much, he must be frustrating to play with.
Unlike Harden, he does have the clutch gene, so it's not as hopeless as the Rockets/Sixers are relying on that clown but still, I think it limits the Mavs upside.

Right. Porzingis, for example, is obviously much happier in Washington. What star wants to play with the league's biggest ball hog?

Jax needs to be in a situation like last year, he is only going to stick(at least for now) if he can play the Mobley role in a Cleveland-like setup where you have another defensive big that can protect the rim and board and Jax is that weakside eraser. Rim running on the other end and playing with 3 offensive wings/guards.
Problem is, you look across the league and there arent a ton of teams that would feel their best option is starting Jax at the 4. So then you look to bench roles, and same applies. So now you are looking at him needing to find a home where he can be the back up 4, and again the issue is most teams gravitate toward guys like a Trey Murphy to fill that role. Or guys that can reliably score, which Jax also hasnt figured out. So again Jax's utility is limited.
Jax's inability to learn how to protect the rim and rebound is really going to limit his future in this league IMO.
