Basically we are giving up a 1st rounder and about $4.5 million in cash after getting $1.5 million from Houston (considering we now have to pay off the poison pill as his salary is over $14 million but cap figure is about $8 million). He is only signed for 1 more year. So we paid very heavily for a 1 year rental.

Lebron ain't going there and Harden/Melo won't win anything.

I hope there is an extension in the works and/or a protection on the pick.

I am assuming we get his bird rights though.

I now LOVE our frontcourt for next year, but I don't love the fact that Asik could easily leave us after one season and we'd be without a 1st round pick.

How much does the bird right give us?

And could we still use the MLE for someone like PJ Tucker ?

Regarding New Orleans giving up firsts in two consecutive years, I'm told this deal will happen officially in July. By then, that's legal.

Yep, he'll have full Bird rights after next season. With him, the pick will likely be mid 1st

So, we waited it out a year and got him without having to give up Anderson.

Pretty good

That's sort of where I am. I like Asik a lot but somewhat conflicted right now.

I'm not sure how the cap numbers work out here. I would expect some other moves to relieve cap pressure.

EDIT: If the pick isn't at least lottery protected Demps made a mistake.

i'd like to think that something is in the works and they wouldn't be doing this off of blind hope

If Carmelo and LeBron both shaft Houston, this trade will be even better.

I hope we get Lowry. We had a good team last year. Adding Lowry would be a huge get and a great fit.

Just saw a tweet that said top 20 protected. If we can extend him, this is a grand slam.

I love Asik as a player. He's a workhorse. Sucks that there is no room for him on the Rockets but he is going to make N.O.'s front court absolutely filthy.
