Even if Zion is playing, the 4 spot is a weak link in the roster.

Zion/Jax….everyone else in the list is playing out of position.

And at the same time we have such a logjam of small guards and wings that the Pels can’t get one of their young lottery picks (Kira) on the court despite injuries and losing consistently.

Regardless of BI and Zion’s situation, the Pels need to balance the roster with a legit stretch 4, or at least a big 3 that can shoot, but if they go with a big 3 then they really need to keep Jax on the roster (or replace him) or it will still be unbalanced.

I get why everyone wants Kira to have minutes over Graham, I'm in the same boat, but just because he's different from Graham, doesn't mean the team will be better with Kira getting those minutes.

I hope it happens just because I'm sick of seeing Graham in a Pels jersey, but really we'd be better off if we moved on from both of them.

Agree 100%…I have no idea if he would be an improvement over DG or not (I guess probably not or Willy would play him), but the fact he is nailed to the bench while we rack up losses and are starting our backup SG at PF because we don’t really have a backup 4 is a roster construction problem.

The roster issues are solely a draft issue too, which is annoying.

Jaxson was always going to be a project with little chance of hitting and then in terms of the wing, we've had this thing about drafting really athletic guys, but none of them besides Trey could shoot (Kira, Herb, Dyson).

Our team is built to really frick shite up in really physical games which has worked out in some cases over the last 2 seasons, but we simply don't have the firepower in this era of the 3-pointer.

Pels have 3 small guards sitting on the bench already with CJ and likely Dyson eventually getting PG minutes…that was basically my point. If we are going to add a PG then room has to be made and we still have a hole at the backup 4.

Collins is too expensive to sit on the bench and would require a bunch of picks too, but something like Kelly Olynyk and Simone Fonteccio for those 3 (DG, Jax, and Kira) may be doable.

True. It's clear we need length, aside from jv we don't have a big man. We have two tweeners like zion and Larry.

I think we are ok at the 5. Billy was the Eurobasket MVP and is almost as much of a walking double-double as JV. He isn’t a great rim protector either, but is a pretty good backup center, particularly for the cost. Unfortunately for Billy there just aren’t many minutes left at the 5 most nights behind JV, since we play Larry a lot as the small ball 5.

The issue is that whenever Zion isn’t on the floor we tend to have them on an island with all guards, unless we are trying minutes with Jax, which sometimes works and sometimes doesn’t depending on matchups and Jax’ headspace.

I was glad to see Willy play more true 4/5 tonight with Larry playing some at the 4, and those were positive minutes for the Pels.

Who would you trade to get him? He’s making almost $40mm next season.

Lol. I was on the Lauri train years ago and no one cared. Said at the time he would be perfect just for his shooting and ability to fill in for Zion since he seemed to be injury prone.

I remember thinking “eh it’s better than nothing” then we waited till the offseason and actually got nothing for him

Our roster would get decimated. Raptors would probably want Dyson, Trey, Herb and Naji plus whoever else plus picks. If they go full rebuild and are getting rid of Pascal they would want young talent to build around Scottie Barnes and their other young guys, So they wouldn't want JV, Larry, Devonte or Billy. I don't see how we could match salary. We would have to have either BI or Z as part of any deal - so does that really help us?

Agree...it's easy to say let's go get some guy making $30-40mm that everyone knows is a stud, but it's an entirely different matter to make it happen financially and without wrecking your team.

IMO the Pels can reasonably match salary and improve the middle-back end of the roster, without mortgaging the future or losing the core. That basically means moving non-starting players for other non-starting players, but ones that may fit a bit better and may even be spot starters if you swing a good deal.

If they Pels can do that and bolster the middle-back of the roster with more shooting and/or some size/inside D, then it helps now and when BI/Zion are playing.

That could be enough to help hold serve with guys out at times and for a championship run.

Didn’t realize he was getting almost 40.

Anunobi then.

On a side note, playing 2k23 sent the Jazz Kira, Devonte and Lakers 2024 First for Clarkson and Rudy Gay and they accepted.

Would be thrilled with something like that IRL

I would have a legit Pels Talk melt if we did that.

Clarkson is an absolutely woeful fit for this team. Bad 3pt shooter who is a ball stopper and an inefficient chucker who plays no defense. Those are quite literally all the complete opposite of what we need right now.

We need a 3pt shooter who doesn't need the ball in his hands to be effective.
