If you have the budget, you would have to be an idiot not to go after the best.
I hope people see now why I was against going and getting a whole new coaching staff on top of all of this.
Get your core foundation set up. Give them time to evaluate, look around, grade guys already in place while also keeping an eye out for external options.
You can't overturn everything and trade AD and study the draft and free agency. It would have too many moving parts. Now, they give themselves time to evaluate the staff and know that if they move on, they have also spent time talking about other possibilities. There was never any need to rush that with all this other movement going on

I hear you but don’t forget how far this franchise has come. I mean we were owned by the NBA less than 10 years ago.
Dell Demps - hired in July 2010. George Shinn sold the franchise to the NBA in December 2010. Stern/Demps trade CP3 in December 2011. April 2012, Tom Benson buys the Hornets and a few months later we draft Anthony Davis.
Everyone was/still are kind of learning on the fly. Demps wasn’t hired by the Bensons (not that they knew anything about owning an NBA team) and had way more responsibilities than he could handle.
Now that ownership is stable and they have had a few years owning an NBA team, we can now start figuring out how to build a culture.

That's nice and all and I understand you giving them the benefit of the doubt but in no other major business in the world would it be acceptable to have a multi year learning curve.
Imagine going to your investors or shareholders and going, "so, we are going to acquire this company for 300 million and kind of learn on the fly and we will have it figured out in a few years"
Not how any business would work. You would have an acqusition plan in place to have it running optimally in months

Except it's not a publicly owned company, it's a sole proprietorship and the business has Printed money while also appreciating in value considerably. They don't have to answer to shareholders, if they did they would be planning a move to another locale.

The difference is that this was/is one of the Benson’s businesses. It didn’t seem like it was high on their priority until the series against Portland. At least that’s what it seemed.
But I agree with you

That's fine. But I can still critique and say it was run sub sub optimally for longer than it should have right?
Posted on 4/26/19 at 2:30 pm to Crewz
no one will disagree that it’s been run poorly for far too long
I’m just your average sunshine pumper trying to look at the bright side and how far we’ve come

And I am happy with now over never. 10 months ago I would have bet on never, so it's major progress.

You can criticize them for running a suboptimal baksetball operation, but they greatly improved upon preceding ownership (low bar I know, but part of the issue) and the investment from a business perspective has been gang-busters.
It is fine for us to sit on a forum and speculate as to what we would do as a hypothetical owner with hundreds of millions of dollars on the line, but we don't have the experience or financial details to do so with any real conviction. We also are not privy to the myriad health issues and other distractions that have occurred during the Bensons' ownership.
Knicks fans have been criticizing suboptimal operations since the 90's as Dolan laughs in their face and bans them from the arena. So as you said, I am just grateful and excited that Gayle has seen the light and is making the investments/commitments that are being made now.

What a weird point, as I understand it.
The growth of the value of the franchise has had almost nothing to do with anything ownership did. In fact, they have made more money for themselves by being disinterested owners and not investing seriously in the team.

Sources: After meeting with New Orleans' top executive David Griffin about a high-ranking front office job, assistant GM Trent Redden will stay with Clippers. Redden has great belief in Griffin, but is still too connected to LAC group and the unfinished business remaining there.

FYI, I would always start a new thread with this. No one is going to see it buried on page 11

i always thought it a long shot, just because ballmer has the coin to make wishes come true. the GM (winger) also declined to interview at MIN
they are both likely getting fat raises

quote:Maybe, but his relationship with Griffin adn Gayle's willingness to open up the pocketbook seemed like a perfect match. I wonder if Griffin approaches Langdon now.

As I said up front, if it was a slam dunk, it would have been done a while ago. Was first call Griffin made.
Same will go for Phoenix trainer and U'Ren, so I can tell you guys Griffin are after but those guys still have a choice.

You have been consistent from the beginning that it was very far from a slam dunk to get him.

It's just not a "real GM" job
Yes, it's better than being an assistant GM, but Redden will have plenty of real GM offers soon.
