I think all this really does is give the team some leverage in case some team go crazy and overpays for Hart. The Pelicans won't feel inclined to match an overpay if it comes to that.
As far as Hart being retained, I'm pretty sure they want him back. He's a prototypical David Griffin player and Griffin is going to value him a lot.
The only way I can see the team letting Hart walk outside of an overpay is if they decide to keep Ball over Hart which seems unlikely at this point in time.
Marshall and Hart are versatile enough to play together. I feel the team probably feels that way as well.

It has no impact on them.
He's going to be making like 2.5 mill a year.
It shouldn't impact whether Hart stays or goes, but I do think it gives Griff a little leverage with him on price. Between Naji, NAW, maybe Didi and the option to resign Johnson, the Pels don't have to blink in negotiations.
I'm not talking big savings, but maybe you get to match the MLE instead of having to beat it because you made Hart wait on figuring out Lonzo.

Agreed. 4/44 million, just a bit over the MLE is the contract I can see. For Lonzo, I seriously hope we don’t give him a 4/85 contract.
Bledsoe is essentially an expiring next year due to having his 22/23 contract only partially guaranteed. Plus with our abundance of picks, I can see us trading him for a vet.
Marshall deserves at least 15 minutes of playing time. The question is who is he taking it away from

I think 4/44 with Hart would be nice, but i think he's going to want a little bit closer to what Marcus Smart got, which was 4/52. I'd be fine with anything below 4/50 for him, but i certainly wouldn't let him go if he wanted 52.
Hart brings more than basketball skills to the team, and that aspect of his personality is valuable and needed.
and good for Naji. He deserves it. Nice to hit on a guy we didn't draft in the first round. I'd much rather try to fill the end of the bench, and possibly turn into role players, this way than signing minimum contracts to guys with zero upside.

Yea that’s what I was saying—Marshall ensures we won’t overpay for Hart. Love him but Marshall can fill his role for much cheaper

quote:Why are you giving him a pass on that? Why do you assume the Pels are expecting him to shoot 3s? His shot selection has not always been his strong suit.
What kills me is the Pels expecting him to knock down 3s in huge situations when they're down. I've seen it like 5 times already and I'm beside myself for the guy because he shouldn't be expected to do that yet.

quote:Where is that quote from? Shams' quote only says next year guaranteed. Would be surprised to see all of it guaranteed.

Marshall’s new deal with the Pelicans has three fully guaranteed seasons (2021-23) — and a guarantee trigger date for the 2023-24 season, sources said.

Because they draw up plays with zion at the point that suck the defense in for him to kick it out to him. He's open so he has to shoot it. It's not really bad shot selection at all.

Marshall has been one of the real bright story lines for the franchise this year. Pelicans need to get a bit lucky finding players like Marshall.
His skill set reminds me a lot of Trevor ariza. Hopefully he can continues to improve and the pelicans can enjoy some cost friendly minutes from him.

Yeah and tbh, Naji has made some monster timely clutch 3’s this season. He hasn’t made every single one, but there have been a few that he has hit that were definitely an essential part in either keeping us in the game or winning the game. I’ve actually been pleasantly surprised by his spot up 3 ball.
Naji is also a decent secondary creator (he can create his own layups at times) and passer. His lob passes are borderline sublime. He’s definitely got a few things in his toolbox that I was not expecting.

Wow that’s a very team friendly deal. I just wonder if they see Naji as Josh Hart’s cheaper replacement or if they want them both back. I hope they want both but I could see them trying to save a buck and use Naji as the 6th man and primary bench wing player.

This. He's a rookie, and we should expect him to improve. We don't know yet how good he can be.

quote:Actually a pretty good deal for him given he was a two-way. Reportedly he got 3 years guaranteed. That is pretty good considering many 2nd rounders do not get that.

I agree on josh hart.
I love him as a player but you shouldn't be paying him more than 9 mil.
