*Fully prepared for downvotes*

Looking at the Memphis Grizzlies, do you think we could mimic them but with a slightly younger core? Specifically looking at their 2012-13 roster where they made the Western Conference Finals.

Looking at what they had:

PG: Mike Conley, Jerryd Bayless
SG: Tony Allen, Wayne Ellington
SF: Rudy Gay, Tayshaun Prince, Quincy Pondexter
PF: Zach Randolph, Darrell Arthur, Ed Davis
C: Marc Gasol, Marreese Speights

Compared to us (atm):

PG: Jrue Holiday, Tim Frazier
SG: E'twaun Moore
SF: Solomon Hill, Dante Cunningham, Omri Casspi, Ghost of Quincy
PF: Anthony Davis, Terrence Jones
C: DeMarcus Cousins, Donatas Motiejunas, Omer Asik, Alexis Ajinca

Obviously, we need to step up our SG/SF position but we aren't that far from being better than that roster. The biggest difference now being Rudy Gay.

I could be way off in thinking we could be similar to them but what do you all think?

Just looking at it on paper I think you have a good point, but the style of play and chemistry on that Memphis team is a lot different from what we have. Memphis will try to grind the opponent down, keep the game low scoring and win close games.

I obviously have no idea how this team is going to look with Boogie on board, but with Gentry coaching I doubt that the style of play will be anything like the Grizzlies.

Not to mention the two stars on this team are way more athletic.

Yes, both teams have/had great big men but they don't compare much.

We will have a better roster and better talent. They had a better culture, more leaders, and higher IQ guys. These are intangibles that don't show up on paper, but that is what wins games consistently. My gut is the Pels underperform relative to their talent for the next few years

probably the best team to compare us to. Maybe LAC too but a good comparison.

Our front court is overall better, their back court was better. They were more at the back end of their careers. We are in our prime and have more raw talent. The leadership and IQ as stated before is where Memphis far out weighs us.

That Grizzlies team was way more talented than the current Pelicans. These Pelicans have the two most talented players of the group but outside of Jrue the Grizzlies had spots 3-10 in terms of talent ranking.

There is no comparison to what the Pelicans are trying. There has never been a team with as talented a center and power forward entering their prime.

The unknown is what makes this so enticing. I'm even wondering since most of our bigs can play away from the basket how a lineup of Jrue, Solo, AD, Boogie, DMo would look out there. You're big all over yet all 5 of those guys can shoot the 3

I watched a Cousins interview and he said Memphis was the team he hated to play. He said he would have knots and bruises all over after a game. Very physical.

If New Orleans gets the 8th seed, a great inside advantage but they have shooters all over the court. Fun matchup to watch if it happens.
If the Cavs cut Liggins, he would be an excellent pick up to use as a defensive specialist to guard on the perimeter.

Wayne Ellington, Rudy Gay, Marreese Speights were not on the team for the Western Conference Finals.

Also remember Westbrook was out in the Western Semi's. Not much Durant could do.
