interested to see how Coach Green and the Pels play out the last quarter stretch. Will the Pels continue the small ball lineups and hope for better shooting or lean into bigger lineups and try to seize opportunities off the glass.

Seems to me WG, correctly imo, has little to no confidence in his "big lineup", so when things get "crunchy", he'll have his small lineup on the court. He still needs our "big" to help eat some minutes and save wear & tear on Nance but other than that...I doubt he sees much reason to go away from the small ball. Wish it were different but alas...you gotta go with what you think gives you the best chance to win.

At least with the bigs we currently have, that's not a choice Willie seems to believe in. Nance and JV have played 72 minutes this season. Nance and Billy, 69 minutes. Nance and Hayes, 117 minutes. That's just 23% of Nance's total 1089 minutes this season next to another big.

What I hope to see is Dyson getting more run when he gets back.

Dyson
JRich
Herb
Trey
Nance

They should be great defensively, and it's kind of a balanced 2 way lineup if Herb and Dyson are driving/cutting more than shooting.

Not sure on the data, but the small ball approach hasnt seemed to be very successful. Seems to be a trend in the league to get a little more size (height/weight) on the court.

Didn’t know Pels have deployed 2 man combo of Val, Nance, Hayes, and Billy so minimally.. Well, Pels have Raptors coming up, who now with 7’ Poetl, start 4 players over 6’8 and 220+. Interested to see if Coach Green counters.

You may well be right & all things being equal, it's always better to be bigger & stronger across the board but I think WG is pretty much trapped. I'd guess he has decided that his big lineup...well, to be blunt...is amazingly bad. WG is not trying to lose games...and I think the fact he continues to run Nance out there at crunch time ahead of Val, basically means one thing.

Small ball with Zion on the floor is a little different than small ball with anyone else at the 4. Getting Zion back solves a lot of problems.

Absolutely, big Husky is essentially a cheat code. However, with Nance primarily a 5 with or without Zion, you’ve put a lot of physical stress on Nance that’s limited his effectiveness, and does no favors to Val or Nance defensively teaming with TM3, Herb, and BI as undersized 4s.

Just seems Pels have had better success going big when Zion is not available. I can understand the lack of spacing and shooting with 2 bigs but going small hasn’t really solved the concern and additionally has presented other problems.

Looking at TigerInAtl’s numbers, Coach Green must see something in practice, because he hasn’t given it much of a shot in actual games.

I don’t understand why Billy and Jax haven’t gotten more run.

I’d play both 5-10 minutes every other game. Just have Jaxson be an energy guy. Force their big to run baseline to baseline every play. Let him rove and switch on defense.

I think I understand his not playing Billy. He probably figures he’s got similar strengths and weaknesses as JV so might as well play JV more minutes than Billy any. But we’ve seen they get different results despite their similarities. Just because JV isn’t making it work that night doesn’t mean Billy will automatically fail too.

The teams bigs may not be great as a group, but Dyson is the only wing that seems able to hold his own when he has to play in the paint. I wish Trey was better and I think he will be long term, but he’s just got to get stronger and smarter.

hes never getting smarter.
iq stays the same from age 8.
but he can study and learn the position (defending pnr, defending a big in the lane) if someone coaches him.

markkenen and his long neck is listed as SF.

tm3 just grew a lot.
hes got a lot to integrate.

Trey is plenty intelligent he just needs experience.

I'm talking about knowledge/experience. Like having the proper footwork and taking the right angles. Add that and some strength and he'll stop getting beat so much.

There's no dumbasses on this team with no hope except for Jax.

Everyone else is intelligent and should be able to improve with experience.

Nance on crutches may force Coach Green’s hand.

So, Nance is out for a while? Given WG might be cutting Herb's minutes back after only giving him 13 minutes last night...gonna be interesting with no Nance and Herb getting minutes cut back. Guess I'll bet the "over"...for a while

I want to see more of Kira and Hayes together also. It look great last year even though it was a small sample size. Test out the lineups because whatever theyre doing now isn’t working.

That’s because the only other 4 on the team is Jax.

Just idiotic roster construction by Griffin and Langdon to functionally have no backup for Zion, who is likely going to miss time even in good years.

Next year they are going to tell us Liddell is the backup to fill that hole and we will hear the young excuse when it doesn’t work.

The reality is you can’t play guys that are 200lbs against guys that are 250+ and 2-4” taller night after night and expect it to work. Particularly when those guys aren’t a deep threat. Modern small ball is to space the floor, but that doesn’t work when those small guys can’t shoot. It’s just stupid.

I don’t mind the small ball but we miss a dog like Hart that will do the dirty work for the rebounds.

Hart is one those players that can successfully compete above their stature. I think, like Nance at the 5, he could not be expected to play major minutes at the 4.
