He just doesn't get a say in where he's going.
Yes he does. If he says there's no way in hell he'd resign with Memphis they wouldn't pull the trigger. If he says the Knicks are ok but he doesn't want Okafor eating Melo's cap space, we probably couldn't send Okafor to the Knicks. This may be 2 years out and no contract can be negotiated, but it's more or less a Sign and Trade situation.

CP3 is going to play for the Hornets, and play at an all-star level this season. Why? For his own selfish needs. If he wants to get traded or receive a sign-and-trade or huge FA contract when this one is complete, he better play his arse off or risk not being a tradable commodity. He's not going to get shite for offers if he allows his play to diminish in the coming season(s) because he is unhappy.
Right? RIGHT?
Right? RIGHT?

Wow. Is this really going to be the sales pitch, that they are willing to spend money but they just spent it poorly?

The pitch is expected to include reminders that the Hornets, despite ongoing uncertainty about the proposed ownership transfer from George Shinn to Gary Chouest, had a payroll close to the luxury-tax line last season and would have been in tax territory again next season if not for the draft-day deal that sent Morris Peterson to Oklahoma City. The Hornets, sources said, will use that reminder to support their claim that they have shown a willingness to spend in recent seasons but spent their money poorly. Sources maintain that Paul's increasingly strained relationship with former GM Jeff Bower was a major factor in Bower's dismissal, but Weber contends that Demps -- after five seasons in the Spurs' highly respected front office -- will make better use of New Orleans' resources

is it really that far fetched?
if they are willing to spend money, and have someone that knows what to do with that money, then it think its a selling point.
Look at the Saints when Sean Payton hoped on. Everyone said Benson was a cheapskate...but he really wasn't, money was just spent poorly and player development/scouting was lackluster under Jim Haslett and crew.

And Lebron tweeted basically that Paul has to do whats best for his family which is about as good a confirmation as you're gonna get considering they may actually be sleeping together at this point
