So you are saying its completely unrealistic for him to play 25 min the entire season?
Fify
Those 25 minutes would be Shaq-esque, though.

Morrow is on a minimum deal and is the equivalent of the type of player we would replace him with anyway next year. The risk there is a new injury preventing him from playing next year, which is a relatively low risk. The risk profile of a guy that hasn't played since 2009 is quite a bit different.
Morrow is an end of the bench player that we gave a player option 2nd year to. He's making over 1 million each year. Is that really THAT different from the proposed Oden deal? We're talking about 2 million more each year, which will not put us into the luxury tax if we don't want to be there.
If this is all about roster spots, y'all should be bitching about the Morrow deal.

On a one off game, no. On a nightly basis, yes. To expect otherwise is pretty unfair to Oden.

Oden is not the first player in the history of the world to come back from microfracture.
He's had 3 procedures total done on both knees. That's pretty unprecedented.

I'm simply breaking down the concerns. Roster spot concern? I just addressed that. Its no worse than Morrow's deal.
Cost? Its $2 million more than Morrow. We can still avoid the luxury easily. Hell, Benson may not even care how much we spend right now. Why should we even worry unless we actually know what his spending limits are?

you're arguing semantics here. I'm saying its possible if his health continues in a positive trend, its possible for him to play 25 mpg nights. You're agreeing but saying its impossible for him to do it on a nightly basis. I think you're trying to disagree cause you fear Oden and the Pelicans success. Some people embrace success, some people fear it and run.

The player option given to Morrow isn't expected to be a dead roster spot. The expectation is that he will opt out and move on or play well enough to get a bigger deal. How many players have injuries that carry over to the next year? Surely it's not more than 20 and probably a lot less. So there's less than a 5% chance that Morrow will be dead cap space in 2014. Do you really think Oden is in the same risk ball park for not playing in 2014.

It's about how close this potentially brings the team to the tax line. If Oden can't play and his 2nd year keeps Demps from resigning Aminu or Smith or similar replacements then Demps clearly would have made a mistake. I don't know why some of you don't see that there are serious consequences to signing Oden for more than a year if he can't play.

If they are signing Greg Oden to a guaranteed 2nd year, do you honestly believe that he is "expected" to be a dead roster spot?
See how silly that logic is?

I'm just still cracking up about we how we shouldn't sign Oden because we need practice players. Yes practice is important, but these dudes ain't high schoolers and if worst comes to worst I think they could find a guard to come practice with them. Cuz there is no other big y'all have suggested we sign instead of Oden. So I'm assuming y'all want another guard.

They refuse to acknowledge it.

I don't expect them to offer that, but I would trust Demps knew more than me if the 2nd year was a player option. But WE don't have any information to suggest that is a rational course of action, so you are the one being silly to think it's reasonable based on the publicly available information.

a one year small punishment is hardly a risk i fear.

Is anyone reporting their is an offer for a guaranteed second year, or is this all Pelicans talk discussion?

Everything at this point is conjecture.

Yeah I get that, I'm just wondering where the second year guarantee talk came from.

When did I advocate that we NEED to give him a guaranteed 2nd year?
I'm putting my faith in Demps and Loomis. I'm not the one acting like I know more than them. I will not be upset regardless of what deal they give him if its somewhere around what has been reported.

I think it's only the goofballs on here who are desperate to land him that are saying that.

PT discussion.
If Bynum couldn't get a guaranteed second year, there is no chance in hell Oden gets one.
