There would be several teams with legitimate shots at a title.

As of today I reasonably count around 6-12 depending on how their season unfolds:

Houston, Milwaukee, Philly, Boston, Brooklyn, Golden State, Portland, Toronto/LAC depending on if either get Kawhi, Lakers, Denver, and Jazz. A few more with a punchers chance.

I don't think there has been a time like that in perhaps as long as I have watched the sport. We've seen moments of equity, but not on this scale. I don't think.

Just hoping again that Kawhi doesn't ruin that.

I don’t see Boston as a title contender this year unless they get a major upgrade at the 4/5.

dear kawhi

hi. how are you? i am fine.

don't go to the lakers...everyone loves you now especially the canadians. they dont have much, its very cold there and they risk getting trampled by a moose. think of the canadian children, won't you?

signed,

everyone except lakers "fans"

Obviously Brooklyn is a year away and GSW will have trouble until Klay is recovered but that’s a really good list. Injuries will happen and if it happens to stars from the LAL (assuming no Kawhi) or GSW then they will struggle opening the door to even more teams.

I think there are solid arguments either way for most of them, which is what makes this potential era so exciting.

I think in Boston's case, the optimistic argument is if Kemba continues to ball out(who seems like a much more synergistic fit), Jayson gets back on his upward trajectory, Brown continues to develop, and Hayward gains back another 30-40% that is a solid team that can once again shock some teams in the playoffs.

GS is one of those teams I could see swinging as high as an underdog champion to as low as missing the playoffs.

Though as of now I honestly suspect a mid to low seed. Which is crazy.

I really don't like the fit of Curry and Monta Ellis....I'm sorry, D-Lo.

I agree, that was the a really surprising move to me. it's an odd fit for sure.

Western Conference Playoff Teams:

Denver
Jazz
Portland
Houston
Thunder
Warriors
Clips
Dallas

Pels/lakers/kings

7-10 are all interchangeable. The west is so deep this year. I love it. Hopefully Kawhi stays in the east and the whole league will get closer to full equilibrium.

Not having KD and Klay is going to take a HUGE toll on Steph physically more than anything IMO. He will have to take on a lot of the heavy lifting and now other teams top defenders will focus primarily on him.

Physically, I’m not sure how well he will hold up. It’s one thing to do it during one or two playoffs with lots of rest between games but it’s another to do it for at minimum half a season until Klay returns

No Iggy either. Probably no Cousins. And Looney is a FA. Plus Quinn Cook. It’s going to be a much different look for them.

Yeah, he is going to go from taking off a lot of fourth quarters and having 3 other superstars shouldering the load to basically getting zeroed in on all game and being forced to play 36 minutes every night.

I think Denver, Utah, Houston, & Golden State are all playoff locks.

The rest of the West could contend for a playoff spot outside of Memphis. West is stacked

I wouldn't be so sure about Golden State.

I’m sure. Russell, Curry, and Draymond are good enough to get to the playoffs. Also, Klay will come back in the postseason. That’s a great team.

That is a guard heavy team with no bigs to speak of...Draymond works in small ball lineups, but he cannot handle Centers full time.

The Warriors are a top heavy team, with tons of holes.

Some bigs that miss out on a big payday will go there on a 1 year minimum deal as a ring chaser.

They’re still good enough to make the playoffs. I don’t see them falling off that much as to miss the playoffs.

that team has so many holes and zero depth at the moment. yeah, those are great players, but it's not inconceivable to think the warriors miss the playoffs this year.
