We fall short on international flights and the simple fact that it’s a dated arena.

You do realize that flights get added for major events, right?

None of these is the reason NOLA won't get any more all-star games for the time being. It won't come here because we have already had 2, and the SKC is a dump. If they are able to get that new arena they have talked about on the riverfront in the next 20 years, NOLA will get another ASG.

And before people start posting, yes that has been reported and no it is not planned for anytime soon. Sometime in the mid 2030s is what they are thinking.

How many people travel to an ASG from more than maybe a two hour drive away? And how many of the celebrities and business folks are actually flying commercial?

Just make Vegas the permanent home for the irrelevant all star weekend.

The skills challenge is stupid.
The dunk contest is no longer worth having.
The game itself is a joke similar to pro bowl which they got rid of.
Only thing worth watching is the 3 point shootout.

Maybe instead of a full court game, break the teams down and have a 3 on 3 tourney, that might be something different and fun to watch and less taxing on players.

You could even include some former players in this event which would bring back some of the legends.

If/when NO gets a new downtown arena in the early 2030s the all-star game will be here again a year or two after.

Gayle will never fork up the 40-50% needed to fund a new arena. The state isn’t going to want to fund 80% and league 20%.

They need to build on the existing footprint of lots 3/3A and Champions Garage. Club 44 and Champions Square need to be reimagined. Think Texas Live in Arlington. They could then build a two level garage on site of current SKC with green space located on the top level or location to keep grass field for the Superdome if the NFL forces that issue.

A riverfront facility would be nice, but ASM is going to want to continue to work out of their existing offices across the street.

When they were planning the new River District, the Pelicans pitched a new Arena in that area (they were definitely not the ones funding it).

I don't think that went anywhere, and the footprint for the River District that is allegedly going into effect doesn't include it, so I think that's dead.

If the Pels don't have a new Arena by say, 2035, they will be gone unfortunately.

I agree, when I said downtown arena, I really meant the parking lot across the street on Girod, the old New Orleans Centre parking garage, and possibly the back-side of the post office facility. So next door.

What should be telling is that no eye brows seemed to be raised when Cuban sold the Mavs. That should’ve been a concerning sale.

The problem facing New Orleans is that they aren’t sexy to those who can afford teams. So you’re left with Gayle who doesn’t have the business acumen trusting the likes of Loomis and Lauscha. I don’t see Todd Graves selling 51% of Canes to buy the teams and so you’d be left with someone buying parts or a consortium.

It needs to be revitalized. A larger, city wide problem, is that everything needs to just be pressure washed and new coat of paint slapped on. Everything just looks like an afterthought.

On NOLA.com last year in an interview with Dennis Lauscha. He was asked about a new arena for the Pelicans and his response was that their focus was finishing the dome renovations and then hosting the Super Bowl. After that was over, they would open up talks with the state about an arena idea by the convention center. He figured it would take 8-10 years after beginning those talks to have an arena ready, which puts it in the mid 2030s.

There's no chance the State is going to go for that in Landry's first time.

It would hurt him a lot in large parts of the State.

What could possibly be less taxing that the actual All-Star game? No one extends any effort whatsoever.

He'll be an incumbent Republican governor in Louisiana. There's little Landry can screw up to not be reelected. The last incumbent to run and not win was Buddy Roemer +30 years ago. But, with the Superbowl in 2025 and talks not beginning until after it seems unlikely that they'd have anything to announce before 2027 election cycle anyway.

Also, I wouldn't be surprised to see Top Golf flame out within years of opening, and then that site will be available.

N.O. Has a pretty strong track record of successfully hosting major sporting events. That makes it an interesting
issue.

The NBA has more than 10 criteria points it evaluates All-Star hopefuls for. Not every single one of those criteria points must be met.

The last three All-Star games have been held in Cleveland, Salt Lake City and Indianapolis.
