People actually think defense matters in a pick up game.

He looked good offensively. That spin move is Nice. But he didnt look great defensively. Dinwiddie definitely looked best overall. Yea the short dude in black shirt was fast and had some nice handles.

I mean when one guy (Dinwiddie) looked significantly better and playing defense than the rest, I think it proves it does matter. I understand being a good defender in the league doesnt mean just one on one defense. It means being engaged in general, sticking to your assignment, but understanding/knowing when when to switch, working through picks, etc. But Im not saying "Oh crap he sucks on defense because losing one on ones in the gym" Just saying that he did look pretty impressively offensively one on one but not as much on the other side

It really doesn't. The NBA is more about team defense than it is about individual defense. It's why bad defenders can be part of a good defense as well as good defenders can be part of a bad defense.

You can't put any stock in these games from either side of the ball. NAW forcing his man into the teeth of the defense or the help, play passing lanes, and provide strong help defense, rotating, hustling, and closing out the right shooter on the perimeter is more important and it's not going to show up in a pick up game highlight video.

pick up game

rebounding

who is in shape

full court?

if halfcourt do you keep the ball after a make. if so defense matters.

Of course the most logical post here with ANY critique of one of our players is downvoted.

Folks just because the truth is harsh, doesn't mean you have to downvote it.

Those guys have pride bro, NAW knew he was being filmed just like Dinwiddie knew as well and locked NAW up for the most part.

Look I'm not saying NAW is a scrub, and still won't have a possible breakout out season. But I hate when folks get uncomfortable about something they see they start copping excuses like "but that's not a real game, that's just for funsies, etc."

Both can be true man, I just find it hard to believe that NAW wanted to get cooked like that on camera especially since he seemed like he was actually trying.

These are glorified workouts. They work on specific things for the upcoming season. You are getting way too caught up in an offseason pick up game.

There was this one year where Booker complained about being doubled in a pick up game. You're putting way too much stock into nothing.

So why it was mattering to Dinwiddie? Why did NAW get frustrated when Dinwiddie was scoring on him, shaking his head and even taking his shirt off towards the end of the game?

Like I can tell some y'all don't play ball in real life man lol.

I can agree with you fam, but at the same time I feel like some things can be extracted from these "glorified scenarios" as well.

Like both things can agree. It's not a huge deal, and NAW is not a scrub, but at the same time you can clearly see NAW gave a shite and was trying.

The chasm between Dinwiddie and NAW is huge. To say otherwise is simply being a 'homer'.

NAW will be replaced by January 1 by TM3. He's way to inconsistent to be relied upon for starter minutes. Dropping 30 on 50% shooting one night and settling for nine on 25% shooting, while playing matador defense, the next, will be his Waterloo.

The rookie is already a better shooter and defender. Just has to adjust to NBA speed.

That wasn't a pick up game. They were practicing offense and defense one on one in the final seconds of the shot clock.

A stop got you the ball if you were on defense (Dinwiddie had the ball a ton because he barely could be stopped). Defenders rotated out if they got scored on while the scorer kept the ball.

So yes defense mattered a great deal.

THANK YOU.

Folks here is just defensive. Let's be real, if NAW was cooking, folks would not be saying this is just a pick up game, and if someone would, it would get downvoted to oblivion

Folks would be saying NAW is about to breakout and looks amazing. I just dislike bullshiters man.

You’re definitely not MM…

Playing the market on hot takes is such a weird thing to put so much effort into.

You came up with this “Honest Man” schtick and you have so many takes that are very clearly based on your own personal biases.

People would be arguing both sides regardless of how NAW looked into this video. That’s what they do with every thread.

I think what most are trying to say is a 1v1 video of NAW playing bad vs a borderline all star maybe isn't enough evidence to suggest he's over rated or not good. Although I agree that NAW is more of a role player than a go to guy like Dinwiddie.

NAW is a complimentary player. If he has a good season this year it’s going to be more like Gary Harris before the contract and injuries made him overrated than a soon to be All Star.

That's not what I'm saying. I just hate how defensive, hypocritical, and delusional some fans can be by any critisim of players.

I personally STILL believe NAW can possibly have a really good year. But I understand why other fans don't because NAW as a lead guard can be inconsistent, and turnover prone. The hope is some of the mental things has been worked out because he has talent, but his lateral quickness has a been a critique since he came in the league.

This footage is "slight" evidence of some of that. Nothing more. It's folks acting like that it's blasphemy to notice some of that from this video when NAW who is competitor and bussing his butt, and trying while folks are acting like he is care free in this video because they deep down don't like what they seen.

Lets have HONEST conversations is all I'm saying.
