Now that for the most part C Clark announced the Pelicans are done for the trade deadline, lets now look at a not so nice picture coming soon for the Pelicans.

AS of the last game played this season:

We have no starting Center on the roster
Jose has a Team Option that more likely than not will be picked up
Trey Murphy's extension arrives
Brandon Ingrams Extension arrives
You have 9 actual signed individual on the team
The Cap I believe is 172 million

This is very simple folks. BI or Trey is getting traded in the offseason.

Yeah I cant see them paying JV, BI and Trey unless they seriously are going into the tax. Again why Im surprised no move was made this deadline.

Fairly certain we will do everything in our power to re-sign Jonas to a similar deal

wat?

Give him a similar extension that we gave Herb.

This will be interesting

This is a majority the reason why I was sounding the alarms 15 months ago. Were now here and there's no stopping this train now.

I’d rather not move on to the offseason yet. If it’s ok, I’ll go ahead and stay focused on this season. Lot of meaningful games to be played for this team.

Hes assuming a lot of things but hes not completely off base. Its going to be hard to keep Jonas, extend BI and Trey. Something got to give unless we’re of the belief they’re going into the tax. This team getting expensive real quick.

If we're afraid to go into the tax, we've already lost.

Yeah you pick up the cheap Jose option. Thats not a question and honestly an insignificant move.

Lets play your math game

172m is the tax apron

You have 150.1M on the books already not including anything above

quote:

wat?

The team will pick up his option +1.9M

quote:

Give him a similar extension that we gave Herb.

Not happening. He's getting minimum 25M a year (more likely 30M) +25-30M

quote:

This will be interesting

Nothing interesting about it. Its 30% of the cap. +55M

quote:

wat?

1.9 + 25 + 16M for this Jonas deal you say = 42.9M

42.9M + 150.1M = 193M

Someone is getting traded.

And I think that will be determined how far we go this season. If we can’t get past the first round I doubt they even think about paying the tax.

Stop acting like the tax threshold is some brick wall. Practically every team in the NBA has gone into it.

And if it is then there's no point following this team until Gayle sells it.

You are pretending to believe a team that has never gone into the tax is going to go into the tax.

Again, if we make every move based on staying below the tax line, then there is no point following this team.

If we let Jonas, Trey and BI all walk simply because it saves ownership money but puts a worse product on the floor, fans should boycott the franchise.

That's Shinn-era economics.

Yeah man I don’t know what to tell you. Unless this team literally a game away from nba finals this year- they’re not paying tax next year. Thats a certainty.

We traded Kira to get under the tax apron.

Jonas is leaving here as a UFA. If we re-sign him remains a question not a guarantee.

A guarantee is that if we dont want to be a 2nd Apron tax team, either BI or Trey is gone.

Yep, all except us and the Hornets have paid the tax, but say we get bounced in the first round, I can’t imagine Gayle signing off on paying the tax for this team as constructed.
