Man, how important was Griffin hiring Aaron Nelson now that we have Zion?

I’m so happy that we have one of the most respected trainers in the NBA now with such an explosive athlete like Zion. There’s no doubt in my mind that Nelson and his staff are going to tell Zion how to land properly and preserve his body in the grind of a 82 game season. Nelson is the guy who told Shaq to start running differently because of the way he was exerting force on his knees.. which led to a Shaq resurgence. That type of injury prevention is so foreign here in NOLA.

I am hoping Jrue's trainer can get a hold of Zion as well. I seriously attribute a good bit of Jrue's currently recently good bill health to his offseason programming. His approach to sports performance training is one that on the forefront of how athletes move and what their demands are.

Hope our team dietitians are up to snuff. Zion needs to lose some of that baby fat and turn it to muscle

If it could land us somebody in FA it would be nice but I also think it helps Ingram and Lonzo. Keeping them on the court could make them stars.

The old staff’s best solution would have been duct tape around Zion’s shoes to prevent a blowout

I read somewhere that the Pels are being taken more serious since Griffin got the job. also said Rob Pelinka is getting played by everyone because he is so hated for when he was an agent. Demps also sounded like an arse but Griffin was liked by everyone.

I watched that dude hit his cheek on the backboard blocking a shot last year. As long a he doesn't start putting on massive amounts of fat I think we are good.

We don't need talking heads or beat writers to confirm this, the Pels getting mentioned as teams in the mix for high level FAs is evidence that things have changed.

I don't think I'd call Demps an arse, but he had the same secretive mentality that's prevalent within the Saints organization. I really think that's how he lasted so long, he fit the culture well. Griffin is the exact opposite, open and communicative. Reporters especially love people that talk to them.

Regarding the OP, I think it will be an important hire. One of the first things Nelson said when he got here wasn't that our training/medical setup was bad, but that it lacked an overall vision. Like we had a handful of trendy treatment options as they had increased spending in this area lately, but there wasn't a good big picture view that tied all of these options together to gain the synergies needed to maximize player health and performance.

Zion is incomparable. You cannot look at his body and say he needs to lose weight or gain muscle. What he can do, at his size, is from God....no reason for us to frick around with that.

Never understood the obsession with Williamson and his weight. It’s like people are looking at the number and saying he should be this or that. Zion is one of a kind and you let him develop organicly until you have more data to steer him. That’s probably another 3 years at the very least. He’s already in amazing shape. You look at him and there very little body fat on that kid. You essentially asking him to lose mass at this point which would potentially be more harmful than anything else. He is a perfect specimen right now. He’s 18 for Christ sake. Muscle will develop over time with the NBA strength and conditioning. People expect him to look like Miami’s Lebron at 18. That’s crazy to me. He ain’t fat at all people.

He is not fat at all. I think people just worry about the amount of weight on his knees.

WTF? Zion is all muscle.

There's video of him at the beach and videos of him lifting weights and the dude doesn't have an ounce of fat on his abs, chest or flanks.

He may have a thick torso of lean muscle mass, and arguably that much muscle weight could be bad for his knees in the long run, but he doesn't have baby fat.
