Whether he means it or not (and I hope he does) it’s a smarter play for him for the offseason. Only a handful of teams are going to offer him big money and one (CHI) is probably out now. Why would you limit an already limited market? Im sure he would be perfectly happy to stay if the Pels offer 80million+

If he’s cool with 5/80(16 per year) get the paper over right now.

Signs seem to point to him wanting closer to 20+ though.

Still think that unless he takes another leap the market won’t be as hot as people fear.

Says the guy that literally came in hot on page one quoting me like five times and has been aggressively quoting me and personally attacking me every chance since.

I just realized I think it's essential for the Pels to miss the playoffs, or at least fall flat in the Play-In. Not only are there draft order considerations, but if the Pels do well and Lonzo doesn't play poorly, his market value probably increases.

Yeah that’s another very valid point.

He doesn’t necessarily have to take another leap but if he does it when lights are brightest some team with money almost always seems to talk themselves into thinking this guy in the playoffs can be a much bigger guy if we give him the bag.

lol ok Lil Jon

But do me a favor and maybe look at who was quoting who on page 1 incessantly, flying off the handle before even listening to the podcast or reading a full transcript?

Or Lonzo can tear it up and we might be able to swing a beneficial sign and trade for him involving

Cobi White from the Bulls

or Mitch Rob and a first from the Knicks

or possibly Herro or Duncan/Nunn from the Heat.

I hope Lonzo tears it up tbh. It would be great for Zion, Ingram, Naw, Kira, Jaxson, etc to get some early playoff reps and taste of success. And for that to happen, Lonzo probably has to play at a level that enhances his current market value.

Schroder reportedly turned down 4 yr 84 mil extension with the Lakes. That can have 2 impacts on Lonzo’s free agency situation.

1) There is another guard out on the market looking to get paid, so could result in less comp. Maybe the Bulls or Knicks or both would go after schroder instead of a RFA in Ball.

2) Sets a potential floor for Ball’s salary. Schroder is definitely better at getting to the basket and creating his own shot, but I think most GM’s would value Ball’s skillset, age, potential and even attitude over Schroder, so if Schroder gets over 20 mil, Lonzo probably will too.

Fair point. I also do think Lonzo has the potential to take his game to another level and be worth a big money deal. He's big enough and potentially skilled enough to do everything Jrue did. He's just not strong enough, physical enough, or decisive/aggressive enough yet.

Yikes at 84 for Schroder.

Yeah both are valid concerns.

I still think(maybe hope a bit) with Oladipo, Lowry, Schroder, Rose, Conley, Mills, Dinwiddie, and DeRozan(and I guess the slight chance of Holiday) all free agents, there is enormous risk with teams like Chicago and New York that have the space to tie themselves up and potentially lose those other guys by handing Lonzo an offer sheet that can tie them up for 3 days.

Does anyone love Lonzo that much that they want to wait around 72 hours knowing very likely those guys could take it personally or not want to wait, or simply get signed by teams more hungry for them? Then you’re the Knicks or Bulls and are left holding an empty bag and in the Knicks case, you might have lost Rose in the process.

They changed the hold period down to 2 days last year or the year before IIRC. The same issue still applies though, 48 hours is a long time once the bullets start flying.

quote:

When a restricted free agent wants to sign with another team, he and the new team sign an offer sheet. The terms of that deal — which must be for at least two seasons — are given to the player’s original team, which has two days to match.

Interesting, still gotta consider that opportunity cost of taking that money out of commission for a couple days and signaling out your priorities to the rest of FA, running a healthy risk that other targets might sign elsewhere.

Of course maybe all those other FA’s stay on their current team or make deals at midnight elsewhere anyways, then we could get some FOMO bullshite by a Chicago or NY.

Actually...my first few posts were relatively harmless. I even said in one of my posts I agreed with most of your posts about a lot of different topics.

You were the one that started hostilities. And continued them with me and other posters as well. You like starting shite and getting people stirred up and being contrarian. It’s fine. I still respect you as a poster. Just don’t get mad when people call you out for it

That’s laughable. We not losing Hart over how JJ was treated. It’ll be because the Pels are not gonna dish out over 30 million a year to both Lonzo and Hart or something close to that number.

I just think if Lonzo gets a contract close to or over 20 and we match, we letting Hart walk. Which sucks.

I’d like to see them promise. Because promises are super important and we know Bronc would never break one.

It’s good that Lonzo didn’t confirm what his father is saying but he did sound robotic in his answers. I want to believe he is honest but it didn’t look like it.

Schroeder is crazy for turning down that offer
