I personally think we are in a much better position than anytime we had AD with the exception of the 2017-2018 season, but that team didn’t last very long. Now do I think Griff has always made the best decisions…absolutely not. However, we at least have capable players on our roster now. Our bench during our sweep of Portland was Ian Clark, Solomon Hill, Diallo, Darius Miller….what did they do after that season? This board for the most part hates Nance and Naji but damn they are vastly better. EJ would have been one of our top players during ADs tenure. I’ll probably get hate for this but we have become a better organization since the AD trade, so IMO we won in the trade, not in comparison of the Lakers but just as an individual organization. Can we be better? Obviously, but let’s not forget that before the new regime the last time we competed for a playoff spot in back to back years we had a different name and CP3.

Hell we also at least have had draft picks every year. When Demps was in charge we were arse and didn’t even have picks because we were trading them for ASSik.

Give LeBron months to recover after a full season and yeah he'll probably win another one at his current age

Right, give him and off-season, then a 2 week warmup period and the Lakers would probably still be a contender now, 4 years later and with a worse team. It was a completely different set of circumstances than a typical season, the retort is typically, “well everyone played under the same circumstances”. Of course they did, but those circumstances definitely favored a team like the Lakers over everyone else.

I’m judging the trade currently but yes if they dump BI for a star that helps us win a championship I agree we could win the trade. But CURRENTLY, we haven’t won sustainably or anything of consequence. By the way its been 5 years since the trade- I wouldn’t say thats too early.

When do you stop judging it? What if we trade BI for a player and picks, and then ultimately trade one of those picks for a different player, and then trade that player for another pick that ends up number one overall and is a generational talent that leads us to a championship.

Then does that mean we won the trade 15 years down the line from when the trade occurred?

Kinda off topic but I still remember in 2013, I got an update on my phone the morning of the draft that the Pelicans were going to select Giannis Antetokounmpo and I ofc said “Who tf is that?” Obviously that didn’t happen as the Pelicans traded for Jrue that night. But could you imagine Giannis and AD together. If I’m not mistaken I believe it was Pels personnel that first discovered Giannis.

Referring to BI as a bum is absurd.

And with lebaby likely leaving Lakers means they will probably be better than 17 next year.

Anyone who thought A lowly team like the Pelicans would ever "win" a trade with the Lakers is kidding themselves. They have LeBron, they have the history, they have the market. The NBA will ALWAYS give them help whenever it can.

We “won” in that we extorted a big pile of assets out of them and made it damn near impossible for them to keep reloading after that title.

Considering Davis was forcing his way there and only there, we got pretty much everything we could have out of them, which included Dyson as a bonus. And we still may get another lottery pick out of it.

Contrast that with most trades with a team like that. Memphis is lucky that Marc Gasol became a cornerstone for them because the rest of the Pau Gasol trade was crap.

They beat a very over rated Warriors team and then got smashed by the Nuggets. They haven’t been able to build a good enough roster around AD and LeBron, and part of the reason for that is because we took a ton of assets from them.

The better way to look at the AD trade is to compare what we got to other trades when an all star had 1 year left on there contract and is about to be an unrestricted free agent. We got more for AD than the nets got for Harden and Irving combined. We got much more than the Wizards got or could have gotten for Beal. Only trade I can think of that got more is OKC getting SGA and picks for Paul George, but most didn’t think SGA would become an mvp candidate as quickly as he did.

Lebron is probably staying he's just putting pressure on the lakers to make some moves. He always does this

What?

That doesn’t mean we weren’t in the first round?

Again “laker hate” completely defies any form of logic.
