I love the fact that the rest of the MBA thinks all the gm's involved were just complete dumbasses. If they all agreed to the trade then it should be done

i see our salary as $42M...where is the other 6 coming from?

plus it rises the next year

plus, we're dealing cp3 and his massive salary. we'll have to replace that with salary

are you just trying to be ludicrous?

Maybe the potential owners want even less money on the books when they buy the team.

we still have to hit the salary floor. if we deal okafor we have to sign/receive equal salary (we're under the floor)

is trading for luis scola's 4/40 worse than signing jamal crawford to a 3/30?

If the Hornets want young talent, then how does 4 of the top 11 picks in the 09 draft sound? Williams, Flynn, Thabeet and Hill just need another change of scenery I'm sure.

I bet Demps is so pissed about this. Someone made a good point earlier when they said he doesn't want to completely rebuild because that will result in losing seasons which could potentially cost him and monty his job.

Then there is no moving you from your position.

If you feel that a 32 yr old power forward who has averaged 9 pts and 6 rbs for his career is worth 1/5th of the cap, I really have no response.

True we will probably have to take on a Luis Scola type contract. But my guess is, everyone after that has to be young, cheap and no more than 2 years on their contract+draft picks.

Luis Scola has averaged 14.3 points and 8 rebounds over his career. Last year was his best year with 18.3 and 8.2

ETA - and he's 31

Plus, looking at his numbers, they have steadily risen each year. There's no reason to believe they'll suddenly decline due to his age.

1/6 the cap

quote:

9 pts and 6 rbs for his career

14.3 points and 8.0 boards in his nba career

52% FG and 74% FT. from a 4 who plays D, does dirty work, and isn't an a-hole.

his career PER (2010/11 first, then down to his rookie year)

18.43
17.22
17.10
16.13

would you rather spent 1/7 of our cap on jamal fricking crawford?

Are you talking about Scola? He is 31 and has averaged 14/8 in his nba career.

I was under the impression that the trade was blocked by owners' efforts to prevent LA from building it's next dynasty (via Paul and Howard).

But now I'm reading about a Stern initiative that mandates the Hornets trade for developing players and picks.

Can someone fill me in? WTF are Stern's motivations right now?

teams are having to give 4-5 year deals to get guys to take BLOATED salaries to hit the floor

look at what the kings (who have less money than the hornets) are doing in FA

My bad.

It still is a horrible deal and the reason they were going to include the pick and Martin.

Don't forget, he's missed a total of 8 games over 4 years in the NBA.

No shite, Martin was the centerpiece of the trade.

Anyway, I've been away, has anything new happened since the Demps presser? Any new tweets that change the way we are looking at this thing?

no it's not

we have 1 major trade piece this year (odom's expiring)

we have 1 major trade piece NEXT year (martin's expiring)

we get a quality offensive big man who is cheap (just signed for 4 more years, but he's still cheap for his production)

pretty sure we stayed under the cap, so we can put in bids on amnesty'd waivers

Didn't know about that. That's impressive for a player like him. I would love to have him and K Mart.

How is it a horrible deal?

Scola - 18.3 and 8.2 last year. Has missed 8 games in his career.
Kevin Martin - 23.5 ppg 89% from the ft line, 44% from the field, and 38% from 3. 28 years old, has had injury problems in the past but played 80 games last year.
Goran Dragic - 25 year old point guard who's a career 38% 3 pt shooter and is big enough to play the 2 with JJack in certain spots.
