If Gayle doesn’t want to pay two coaches and has financial concerns without ticket sales, I would let Finch audition for the year. Either he works out and he’s your new head coach or he doesn’t and you just move on.

I could see this being the case, but I'm not sure I've ever heard of a HC being fired in the offseason, one of his assistants getting the job, and that assistant not getting a raise and extension.

Larry Drew is the closest exception but even he received a contract that was essentially a two year contract with a team buy-out after the first year. Something creative like that could work for the Pelicans and Finch, especially if Gentry willingly takes a pay cut to move into a different role.

Exactly - the guy was a loser and POS that NEVER should have been interviewed. Not sure that Griffin is much better after a year of poor decisions but give him another year or in Loomis fashion, at least 5 more years of patience with loosing basketball before a change is made.

So who is making the game thread for Gentry's final game as head coach?

This point cannot be overstated. Gentry is under contract for one more season, so while I do not want him back I'm not entirely confident he won't be.
Which was the worst decision Griffin has made. There was absolutely no reason for him to pick up Gentry's option a year ahead of time.

Now he's supposed to go to Benson and co. and explain why they should pay out millions for Gentry to hit the road, when he should have just been a free agent? Does he have those type of balls coming off the embarrassment in Orlando...

Only job I’d give Gentry is some meaningless team ambassador job

How would this work?

You'd still be paying Gentry, and Finch would then become a head coach, who you'd be paying as a head coach.

Yes because being the only person in the organization to carry the weight of the AD drama last year is clearly unemployable.

His time as coach has passed. He’s probably the most likable coach New Orleans Pelicans franchise has ever employed.

We all know Gayle is a big fan of his.

If the teams management wants to continue to be in position
to pick high in the draft they should keep Gentry.

I’m telling Finch he can stay as an assistant and I’ll go out and hire someone else, or he can audition for a year as the head guy. I’m not paying him more.

It’s cutthroat and it’s not typical, but this isn’t a typical time.
