No way in a million years that DRose is the 8th best PG in the NBA.
He also ranked Rondo #9

What is Lowry doing on this list?

Lowry is a statistical beast. I remember a few seasons ago hearing that in some stat model Morey uses he was a top 40 player.

So Derrick rose was still 8th best PG in terms of Wins above replacement without even playing a game? That doesn't make any sense

mother of god that thing is hideous

Lowry being at 8 and Parker at 13 are enormous jokes. My dog could put together a better top 15.

This formula accounts for games played, age/season based production analysis.
Also from his twitter:
his own explanation-
Doolittle is one of ESPN's better metric guys, is the co author of Basketball Prospectus and Baseball Prospectus- a pay for site that's a great resource(which uses SCHONE system
He came more into prominence last year with his bi-weekly Big Man Barometer rankings and should be credited with as the first guy to point out the dominance of Andre Drummond,LeBron as a 4,etc.AD as the top rookie last year (and top 5 big)
WARP explained.
I agree WARP isn't perfect, I prefer Win Shares. "Replacement level" is a very subjective term.
Final note: as the case of Tony Parker,he points to the historical drop of point guards this far into his career, but his 7.1 WARP projection puts him in the top 10 at every position but PF (where the small ball 4s and others dominate).

Any time you rank anything, it generates a flood of disagreement. That's the fun part! I'll stop by Twitter later to field some ?s.
his own explanation-
quote:
(Although keep in mind that assigning a primary position to a player in today's NBA is often more art than science.) Over the next two weeks, we'll rank players by position according to ATH's forecasted WARP, or wins above replacement level. WARP is perfect for this kind of exercise because it accounts for a player's efficiency, volume of production and team context. Here are the projected top 10 point guards for the 2013-14 NBA season followed by the next five and an overview of how some notable PGs fell outside the top 10.

So much wrong with that list that it's not worthy of a true response.

Who the frick is Bradford Doolittle?

Never heard of him until today.

Just goes to show you how flawed WARP is.

And then he traded him for assets.

You saying better or worse?
I have no idea how good he will come back. It seems like he hasn't played in 2 seasons.

It obviously doesn't account for defense or having working legs
