re: JMO: In the long term, I think Dyson Daniels will end up being a "better" player than Trey

I think his floor is what Lonzo was pre injury.

His C & S 3 percentage of 34.3% wasn't bad for a rookie who's reputation was not a shooter. On top of that I think once he realizes he has the same physical advantages on the offensive end as he does on the defensive end, he'll start finishing at the rim better. If he gets the same level of confidence on offense as he already has on defense he's going to be fine.

I am hesitant to put too much stock in his shooting numbers given the low volume. His SL performance scares me a bit, too. I think there are some things he can do to clean up his form. I've mentioned before, but I wish he would drop his left foot 6 inches or so on his jumper. I really think it would address some of the biomechanics that tightens up his shoulders. Lonzo got with Vinson and cleaned up his form, so I have hope, but it just isn't a very good comparison. Pre-injury Lonzo was a good to very good shooter, not slightly below average.

But Lonzo still couldn't attack the basket. I think Dyson will become good enough from 3 but will improve his rim attacking ability. He's already shown the makings of a decent floater.

OP originally said Herb was going to be a superstar, then jumped to Trey, and now it’s Dysons turn. I guess that’s better than being overly negative but it’s pretty obvious what you’re doing.

Thankfully, I hear there's a way to go back & look at my early posts about Herb.
Bottom line: Herb will NEVER come close to being a "superstar". Will just end up being quite a bit better than most everybody here thought at the start...QUITE a bit better.
I'll never be as high on Trey as most here UNTIL he shows me he can take it to the hoop AND finish & he can be at least a tad above average on the defensive end. I'm actually fairly optimistic he will prove to be a solid player.
DD is obviously a work in progress. A young Thybulle, as somebody else said...but with MUCH more creative ability on offense, which should come around in the next year or two. His development is a KEY factor in how good the Pels will become in the near future.
So...to sum up. Coupla years back...I was extremely high on Herb...and I still am. Last year, I thought Mikal Bridges would explode on the scene, once conditions got right for him, which they did, starting around Christmas of last season. This year, my pet project is Thybulle, so...at least give me credit for going out on a limb by picking somebody like him OR Herb...AND going ahead & taking somebody equally as "iffy" by going ahead & picking DD for the following year.

Huge potential, for sure. Just really hard to find ANY "stone cold shooter" that likes to take it all the way to the hoop and finish, very often. I'm having trouble thinking of one at the moment. And I'll definitely admit that Trey is a STONE COLD SHOOTER. And btw, that extra 5' or so that Trey has on his 3-pt shot...is a HUGE advantage. Every time I think of Trey, I have to wonder just how much...Borrego's style will influence Trey's game. I'm optimistic.

You also don't find many elite shooters that come in 2nd in the slam dunk contest. Trey's % of shots taken 0-3 feet was 20% last year and 19% the year before. Career numbers for well known STONE COLD SHOOTERS:
Buddy Hield 15%
Klay Thompson 13.6%
JJ Redick 9.5%
Kyle Korver 5.8%
I think Trey's shots at the rim will continue to stay up. I'm not saying he's going to develop a deadly off the dribble game, although I think he could. It's because usually when he's on the court he has 1-2 other teammates with even more gravity than he has. That means on a hard close out that path to the basket is going to be wide open for Trey because defenders are not going to sag off the Big 3.

Good post...nice info. On Trey...I think, with Borrego, the overall team movement will lead to Trey getting quite a few backdoor cuts without the ball which will result in what we call "quick finishes" at the hoop once the pass is made to him on the cut. He DEFINITELY can finish strong on these type plays.
I'm not so high on him, off the dribble, going all the way to the hoop from the 3-pt line. His suspect handle is one reason plus, there's usually time for a legit "big" to be waiting for him at the rim, on those type plays. The more I think about Borrego...the more optimistic I become... on Trey.

Not many shooters have that athleticism and bounce. Can’t think of any!
He now knows he has the ability to finish and run by close outs.. he’s going to be incredibly dangerous.

I think DD has tons of potential, but
Im still hanging with Trigga for now.
