Absolutely. He feeds off it. Sometimes he’s right, though. This time he’s just trying to pass off JJ’s point of view of the situation as something that will be a detriment to the organization for years to come. And there’s just no way of knowing that and if we’re being honest, we’ve been accommodating to players before and that has never attracted FAs or had other players demanding trades here.

We will likely never be that kind of franchise. We aren’t a destination. We have to accumulate assets and flip them for players in trades or just use them and hope we hit in drafts.

And why is JJ so damn entitled. We overpaid to get him, he hasn’t done shite for us. We don’t owe the guy shite. Clearly teams in the northeast didn’t value him much since they never offered anything better than what we got from Dallas. Buddy’s been at home For months making free money too. frick off and I’ll take my second round pick in a talented draft

I agree but the thing is what Griffin told him, how he promised him that if it doesn’t workout. Then they will settle for something. I don’t know why Griffin will promise some shite like that. But it is what it is.

This is just unreal. Dude played horribly this year. He totally failed to live up to his salary. After the way that he's played, where a $13-million guy basically got completely pushed out of the rotation, why in the world does anyone think that we OWE him squat?

It's just pathetic. And, yeah, we gave him three weeks at his home in Brooklyn to "rehab" his sore heel. I mean, when you're wildly overpaid and completely failing to do your job the way that you were paid to do it, and your boss then gives you a three-week paid vacation -- and then you get upset about being traded?

I'm just in disbelief at the sheer arrogance. I'd be ashamed if I got paid $13 million and played like crap and my team is under .500 as a result. Unreal.

The wording is suspicious though.

Griff never actually gives context to their conversation about a contender. Just says they tried to find him a home in NE. Then mentions a conversation that happened at some point, maybe a week ago, maybe a year ago, about wanting to contend in your twilight. Not even that it was Redick asking to go to one, just that such a sense was expressed at one time in the past.

Griff is incredibly deliberate with his words. So it’s interesting he didn’t ever actually say when this contender conversation took place or that getting him to a contender was one of the explicitly negotiated and expressed options to accommodate him(which Griffs expressed was what he was doing with Redick)

Never said that buddy. What I’ve said at first was this will have an impact beyond this rather meaningless transaction but continued on that we ultimately can’t know the true short or long term outcome of this, but that fostering organizational trust isn’t something to just ignore, if this is a one off maybe it has some shorter term effects like with Hart who shares Redick’s agent, maybe not. Maybe we luck out. If this is more widely reflective of Griff’s behavior, it could be a problem, and a not insignificant one.

You’re making up head cannon and aspersions now as opposed to just sticking to what’s been stated in the thread.

At this point this feels more like he's in shock that we didn't kowtow to him and buy him out , because that's pretty much standard procedure in the NBA these days

Sounds like a "cry baby," entitled mentality. His time in the NBA is done. Heard Griffin say that he tried his best to send him to a team in the northeast, but there was no real interest; so Griffin said he tried sending him to a contender to end out his career! JJ is not entitled to go to another team and the Pels get nothing in return!

Let’s not pretend that wasn’t to our benefit as well.
What benefit? The Pels paid him almost $2 million to go home and spend time with his family. How did that benefit the team? They could have made him sit on the bench and be available if needed.

What if Griffin was on board with the buyout and Gayle said no? Is that out of the question?

Point is there are so many unknowns and we just have the side of a guy who is coming off as a spoiled bitch about the whole situation.

We buy him out like he wanted and he deep throats the whole organization on his pod today and what would that get us? Some goodwill on paper that ultimately means nothing in the long run. Much less than James Johnson, Wes Iwundu, and a 2nd.

The Pels are a small market team. If anything JJ screwed the Pels with his poor performance. JJ has no right to bitch. It is completely obvious how stupid the average NBA player is about business. The organization is doing what they can to make it a winning franchise. JJ shitting on the organization is a reason to not support and watch NBA basketball players.

Also any complaining about his kid is bs. If he cares so much about his family then retire. 99.9% of us would like to be there with our kids all the time, but we have to work to provide for our kids. The guy has millions and his career is basically over. If it was really about his kid he could be there whenever he wants. Shitty of him to even mention that as he could retire at any point.

That we had him on the trade block and you don’t want to risk devaluing the asset when he isn’t a critical part of your lineup.

I mean a half dozen or more teams do this before every trade deadline, not just out of goodwill but because they want to preserve their asset’s value. We wanted to do it with AD but they threw a hissy because they wanted their tv numbers.

I think a lot of people seem to be processing this through their grievances with player empowerment or whatever dumb term people want to use for shooting power dynamics in the NBA labor market..

JJ has a right to his opinion and his speech. And I don’t disagree that some of his reasoning is likely bullshite or wanting to have his cake and eat it too, problem is as an organization you shouldn’t be making promises, or communicating in a way that can be construed as a promise, if you can’t keep them.

It’s bad managerial behavior, full stop.

I mean, I loved his flops when he'd get calls for us, but I'm sure that opposing players don't like that.
