What about J.B. Bickerstaff?

Been around basketball his whole life, young, good defensive minded coach. He has been credited with turning around the Rockets defense this year FWIW.

Just something to think about as another option outside of George Karl, who is apparently the only man for us.

He's a great coach and you can't have him because he's mine.

How about we give you Monty?

He's a defensive minded coach that is highly touted

Judging assistants that haven't been around forever like Thibs is pretty hard from our perspective. It looks like outside of being on his dad's staff (not saying that's a bad thing), he's pretty much been with McHale since 2008. I guess there's enough there to dig deeper, but nothing on his resume gets me excited for him as a HC. LINK

Me either. I mean I'm sure he is a good coach, but he has no HC experience, so it would definitely be a crapshoot.

He's pretty highly regarded and has probably interviewed for 4-5 HC jobs in the last year or two.

Right, I just wanted to point out that contrary to what this board says, there are more options than George Karl.

His dad was a head coach and he's been around the NBA his whole life. I'm sure he is more experienced than his age would suggest.

Here is a pretty entertaining interview just as a basketball fan if you've got 20 minutes to kill.

Scroll down and click episode 3.

That does make him sound more promising. Here's an article on how he was tasked with rebuilding the defense after this:

that's what I was thinking. Dude has been around basketball in nearly every capacity. He seems to be well rounded.

At this point, I'm much less likely to want to "take a chance". This is a pretty crucial next 3 years.

Everyone has to start somewhere.

Hiring any coach is a crapshoot. Doc's teams sucked before he ended up in Boston. Pop was a disaster for a season and then he ended up with Duncan the next year. Jason Kidd went from laughing stock of the league to a shockingly good young coach in less than a year.

Not every guy is going to be Rick Carlisle.

FIFY.

But yea I agree with all this. Also Kidd went from coaching a team with guys damn near older than him to a team full of pups who grew up watching him play.
