It’s gotta be coaching at this point?

This team has digressed. Last night both teams were down our best players. I think we had more talent available…..we blow a 17 pt lead.

Kira was playing great last night so naturally willie only gives him ten minutes.

It sometimes feels like WG is using the required playing time with his rotations and not watching the game

The thing I've noticed about Kira's minutes since Jose's injury has forced Willie to play him, is Willie is only giving him minutes in that stretch where CJ goes out at the end of the 1st and 3rd. Basically he's avoiding playing him and CJ together, which is understandable, but definitely limits how much he can play him.

As for the OP

That happens pretty regularly in today's NBA. I had the Warriors broadcast and they kept talking about how the Pels had one of the best 3 point shooting defenses in the league, which seemed like a shocking statistic to me, until they further explained that the Pels also were terrible at protecting the paint. It reminded me of that season the Saints had a "great run defense" because their secondary sucked and it was so easy to pass against them.

That's basically what happened here. The Pels were down their top 2 centers, who aren't great but are better than their backups, and the Warriors got back in the game by changing strategy and attacking the Pels biggest weakness, paint defense. The Warriors had 52 points in the paint last night, that's 48% of their score and which would be a top 5 in the league percentage if it were their average, which it isn't. They are 29th in the league in PITP% at 37.6%.

So I would say no coach down his 2 best centers is going to paper over that hole that let one of the worst teams in the league at scoring in the paint look like one of the best. The only coaching strategy to really address that is to shift from protecting the 3 point line to protecting the paint. But if you do that you are playing right into Golden State's hands because they are the top 3 point shooting team in the league. Better to have them try and beat you with their weakness than open things up to their biggest strength.

Everyone keeps looking for a single point of failure and a single thing to fix. There are multiple things to fix, and you may have to fix all, or most of them to see much improvement when Zion isn't available to cover them up.

I do think coaching has certainly been an issue but I don't think we should have went into last night expecting a road win missing 5 players from our rotation.

Im a big believer in Coach Green. Pels have the right coach, this however is only his second year and he’s still learning the nuances of being a head coach at the NBA level. Im less enthusiastic about the training and strength and conditioning team. Seems that NFL teams in general have a bit more control on that aspect of player development.

Zion, by all accounts, reported in great condition. However it’s plain to see he cant carry weight north of 270 lbs and be expected to remain healthy for his style of play. Jaxson, TM3, Herb, and Dyson are 10-15 lbs underweight for the roles the team envisions for them.

In the NBA the Heat, Bucks, Warriors, Knicks all seem to direct their conditioning program to be aligned with their play style, while the Pels get gym time but are left more on their own accord in regard to S&C. Pels had no answers for Kaminga last night (Nance may have been the matchup but he is generally worn down carrying too much weight at the 5).

Maybe a topic for next year as it is harder to put on good weight when your running 2-3 high paced miles every other day.

Coaching? At one point late in the game we missed like 5 wide open shots! Instead of being up by 12-15 points, we were up by 2. They made theirs and we missed ours. That’s not a coaching problem.

Also, the refs were letting Kuminga put his hands all over BI a bit too much. But , hey , BI has got to figure that out. Everybody is going to do it.
