These should go a ways in making the case CJ can be a lead guard and Graham really needs to be moved to the bench:

If Graham can’t hit the looks he’s given, he really is bringing nothing to the table besides a guy you still have to close out on…but if he’s not converting them it’s an empty threat

We need to have guys that can convert the opportunities CJ is creating. 14 potential assists and only 5 actual ones is a signal to me that things need to change

DG is holding us back the most. He is a 3pt shooting Pg who can’t hit open shots right now and he’s awful on defense. Sooo he really gives us nothing except missed 3s right now, literally. Jose has shown to be way better on D, a better playmaker, better at scoring in the paint, and lately has been better or at worst the same from 3. Obviously Jose is not the caliber player you want to be your starting Pg, but right now it’s the right move for us.

Devonte to the bench. Jax to start. Trey Murphy takes Temple’s minutes. Surely Willie can see all this right?

Before the trade…yes. After…I’m not so sure. Im wondering if he’s waiting until CJ has grasped more of our defensive and offensive strategies so he’s better prepared to be the primary guy and not have someone else make communications like Graham

But that’s just me spitballing. I’ve had faith in WG up until this point but I just hope we start to see some changes

I think we need to decide what we prioritize, I think Shammit makes a strong case for getting Trey more reps, I won’t go so far as to say he should be handed the starting spot, but if DG isn’t hitting, you’re gonna bleed out defensively. So I’d rather either Jax or Naji that can bring something else to the table.

As a side note, BI was handed probably more open threes off CJ’s creation last night than he’s probably seen in 10 games combined, and he missed 4 out of 5 of them and all 4 of his wide open threes. It probably has to do with not being synced up with CJ yet, but BI also has to be part of improving our spacing by hitting down the shots CJ is now able to create for him.

DG hitting 2 of his and BI 2 of his and we potentially win this game

which is literally all he should be doing, taking and making open shots, which are plentiful

hard to see how he makes the team better at the moment

Shamit bringing more heat. I don't think the coaches care about pressure from the media, but these stats speak for themselves.

quote:

Shamit Dua@FearTheBrown·1h

Over the past 15 games, the Pelicans are shooting 32.4% on WIDE OPEN threes - ranking 29th in the league.

Garrett Temple is 2/19 (11.1%)
Gary Clark is 4/17 (23.5%)

Devonte Graham is actually at 41.7% and that was before going 0-4 last night. He's hitting the open ones. He and BI are the only ones over 40%.

But it's a little bit ridiculous to only have hit 2 and 4 WIDE OPEN threes in 15 games.

That last bit was good to hear about Devonte, I wasn't that confident in his open looks, but maybe he'll be fine on the 2nd unit.

To me I think the problem to solve is:

CJ = Massively upgraded Devonte
Hart = The real player you are trying to replace, and the specific skills you are trying to replace are: 2nd best defender, kamikaze drives, and rebounding.

Naji does seem like the best fit until Zion returns.
