re: If We Don't Sign Holiday, What Next?

If Boogie can't get a bigger contract after next season (even if he makes an All-NBA team), there's no reason he shouldn't sign an extension now.
Well we would need $30M in space to do that and we would have little ability to upgrade the roster.

If he's signing an extension, his cap hit would be the same for next season (30 mill wouldn't be on the books until the current contact expires and the extension kicks in). If the Pels can lock up Boogie long-term, they don't need to get fancy, they need to sign him ASAP.

If you're Boogie, you're dumb to sign an extension through your remaining prime years right now with us. We're not some established team with a reputation for winning and no one really knows yet how this experiment will end up. It could still go either way. So, why sign now when you have no incentive to? He has everything to lose and nothing to gain by signing an extension now. He obviously wants to see how this season plays out before making a decision and I can't blame him one bit.

To be clear, we can still offer him more than other teams.
Right, because we can offer 8% raises, and a 5th year. I was just clarifying that the All NBA or All Star game has nothing to do with the contract he can receive from us.

Part of me hopes Jrue walks for nothing, because if that happens, it almost forces MNGMT to think long term.

I know that. I was clarifying it for other people.
We can sign him to the most money and years no matter when we sign him.

It would be a renegotiation and extension with cap space which would count against us this year. It is probably more valuable to have Boogie signed long term than to add pieces, but it would be a lot easier to extend him next offseason.
ETA: Larry Coon - Question 61

A contract for four or more seasons can be renegotiated after the third anniversary of its signing, extension, or previous renegotiation...Only teams under the cap can renegotiate a contract, and the salary in the then-current season can be increased only to the extent that the team has room under the cap

More smoke about Dallas, not sure if it's new or repeating from last week.
For them to do that though, Dirk has to take a big pay cut and they have to dump Wesley Matthews plus other guys.

The Dallas Mavericks have emerged as serious contenders to sign Jrue Holiday and his brother Justin, according to league sources.

Has any player ever bacame an UFA and re-signed with the Pels (besides Asik)?
Posted on 6/14/17 at 2:44 pm to TigerinATL
I think they become prime S&T possibilities in that case.
They'd have to Asik, but if it means cap room for them to get Jrue, Justin, and another piece then I think they could do it.

So if Jrue signs with the Mavs, we will have enough cap-space to restructure and extend Boogie for a 5 year max this summer.
Posted on 6/14/17 at 5:15 pm to PelicansBay
After reading through the changes, I think they can max him with as little as $7M in space. They can renegotiate this years salary to $25M then extend 4 more years at 120% with 7.5% raises. Need to confirm that tho though

I'm on the move so I can't research it, but I'm pretty sure you have it right except the raises are 8% now.

Milos Teodosic received New offer to stay in Russia.
CSKA offered him ~34 millions dollars for 5 years.
Word is on the street that he seeks 3 year 25-30 millions.
MIA,UTA,SAC,DEN and BRK are mentioned as interested teams...

If we can get any of the following at #40, I'll be happy: Hart, Sumner, Jackson, Mason, Evans.
I'm obviously smiling with our draft, we got two of the players I hoped for.

I just saw, we traded Sumner.Oh well, I'm happy with Jackson.
