The ultimate irony for this board is the pining for Monty, also a mediocre coach. He got the exact same threads Gentry gets. Now it's how Monty overachieved and always had his guys ready to play

Monty pining is my irrational pet peeve. I’d rather listen to LE talk about Cousins than have someone reminisce about the “good ole Monty days”.

People need to accept that we are a 7-8 seed and not more. We will lose to the majority of better teams and beat worse teams regardless of the context. We will end the year with ~42-45 wins which is hopefully good enough for the playoffs.

Maybe a coach like Stevens changes that with a full offseason, but that was not and is not an option. Maybe Solo can come back to full strength this year and fixes some of our defensive issues, but that's no guarantee. Turnovers are always going to be a problem with this roster and so is fatigue.

I just hope Dell doesn't make a job security move by wasting the 2018 1st to get role player type help this season. Use future 2nds if need be, but keep the 1st. We can address coaching in the offseason. Midseason change of coach won't help.

If I were Demps I would bring in AD, Cousins, and Gentry in for a mid season review around Christmas time. At that time I would foster the bond of Davis and Cousins as a long term duo in NOLA. Then I would ask what they want to see from the team including coaching. If they indicate Gentry is not who they want long term I would let him go immediately and run with an interim assistant. Then I would begin the search for the next coach immediately. That would hopefully sell the two that they are the cornerstone of the franchise and that they want a coach that complements the collaborative vision of the franchise between Demps, Davis, and Cousins. If they want to keep Gentry then hopefully the exercise yields a refocus cor the second half playoff push.

This would hopefully help keeping Cousins on board with signing with the Pels for the future.

If you want an honest answer you don't ask them if they want to fire somebody at Christmas

Well that would be the only way to get the show on the road. Cousins seems like the type of player to be real though and know its a business. It is mainly for him.

Superstars that physically dominate (AD, Cousins, LeBron) get fricked over by the refs.

I completely disagree.

The reason guys like Cousins, Davis, and James are officiated unfairly is because they are not just physically dominant but are also some of the most skilled players at their position.

This is how it should go if everything was officated fairly. Cousin and Davis should put all of the opposing big men in foul trouble in the first quarter because they can take the big men off the dribble. Then they would over power the smaller players that the opponent has to guard them with in the coming quarters. Davis and Cousins are athletic and skilled enough to play small ball.

Instead the refs will let the play be extremely agressive to limit players like Cousins, Davis, and James huge talent advantage. Then the refs can choose when to call touch fouls to influence the game and not be criticzed on the specific call, but in the context of the overall game it is noticeable what is going on.

It reminds me when the refs screwed the Cavs when playing in Toronto in the playoffs. They swallowed their whistles allowing Biyombo look really good because he was just recklessly operating in the paint. It diminished the huge skill advantage the Cavs had in the game; therefore, giving Toronto atleast a chance to compete.

It is not unreasonable to believe that the talent level of this roster is the determining factor so far.

This just isn’t true. This board was in meltdown mode. Erman’s hiring was the only thing that salvaged the news even a little. He was not a hot name. No one credited him with being the GSW offensive mastermind.

I remember that Thibodeau was discussed a good bit.

Interestingly, Lauscha was leaning toward Van Gundy, but theydeferred to Demps, It seems.

Van Gundy would have been an interesting hire, but no guarantee of success as much as people want to believe it.

the problem is no one knows shite about any of this. many Pels fans were eager to sign Fred Hoiberg (whoops). the idea of ceding personnel control to a guy likeJVG is enticing, then you look at the track record of coaches with personnel power and you want to throw up.

the larger issue, which you hit on, is that the Pels ownership group just doesnt seem to be too invested or have much of a clue. every coach will struggle with that environment and the Thibodeaus/Stevens of the world will not want to work in a place like that
