I just don’t get why we would agree to amend the trade and let LA have room for a max

All we got out of it was 1.1 million, I wouldn’t have agreed to it even if they offered another first.

The goal isn't to make the Lakers worse, it's to make the Pelicans better.

We forced them to deplete their entire roster of NBA talent minus 3 players + a draft pick they bought lol

They also had to ship out more draft capital with this trade.

Look at the free agents for next year and the free agents this offseason, why would you rather them sign a max guy this offseason compared to next? it’s in the Pels best interest for the lakers to be bad and lebron leave, if lebron has to play 40 minutes a game the whole season, he’s more likely to be gone when their picks start coming our way. I don’t want them to have kawhi and AD when we start getting their picks when they can pair AD with someone from next years offseason.

They'd actually probably be better off signing 3-4 high end role players with that 32 mil than a max guy

I don’t think you understand, once a trade is agree upon its a done deal. If someone actually pulled back from the trade by surprise, no other team is going to want to do deals with them for the foreseeable future. We’d be blacklisted by other nba teams until we changed our entire front office

I agree, but this trade becomes a success for us if we swap their picks. So we do need them to be bad in 2022 and so on. I would much rather have AD paired with DeRozen or mike Conley or some max guy next year, rather than KD or another max guys this offseason.

Its actually in our best interest for them to blow their wad on a max guy (Jimmy Butler come on down)

1)They will only have 3.2 million they can offer someone on a room exemption

2) They will have to fill the rest of the roster with minimum contract guys

Can you imagine going up against AD, Lebron, Jimmy, Kuzma and then when they rest LA tots out Isiah Thomas, JR Smith, Melo, some guy we've never heard of, and Nerlens Noel??

Their big 3 will have to be able to play 40 minutes a night every night if they even want a chance at the playoffs

You do realize we had to agree to amend the trade right? Originally it was not a 3 team trade.

Did the trade really get amended?

Pelicans were always going to get they guys that were announced. Lakers always had an option to find a third party to involve and nothing changed for the Pelicans except what they would receive on top of the Lakers pieces from the third team.

Am I incorrect with that?

I always understood it as we had to agree to amend the trade and they had until the execution date (July 6th) to find a third team to make the money work.

The teams agreed from the beginning that the deal could be amended to a three team deal. This was always part of the agreement. And it could be done to help us as well if something made sense. I don’t believe the deal with the Hawks necessitates being a part of the deal, but maybe it could have.

But my whole point is why would we agree to amend it and to let the sign a max guy. I get they will just sign a max player next year, but I’d much rather them do that because I think it would help us in the long term.

Well, if we are getting 1.1 Million from Washington, I think we must have had a say so. I doubt they just unilaterally came up with that number.

This is the only thing that makes sense.

It just seems like the Pelicans wouldn't have had to agree to a third team since it didn't affect anything they we're giving out and anything they received (that they agreed to receive) was just bonus on top of what was previously agreed upon.

But I could definitely be wrong.

I agree that we probably had veto power to strike this down, I just don’t get why we didn’t milk them of future 2nd round picks (cheap labor) and more swaps down the road. You know Lebron wouldn’t let them waste another year of his career if they only had 23.7 in cap to fill their roster. We had all the leverage.
