I can't find it now but Mason and Shamit were having a twitter convo where they mentioned the Collins at the 5 lineups were decent defensively. We know the stats never tell the whole story, so that doesn't mean he's a rim protector, but that did make them wonder if Zion + Collins could work. The other context to that conversation was Collins paired with a small ball center like Okungwu were bad defensively.

IDK, a quick overview of the (limited) usage of him at the five was net negative on Cleaning the Glass.

A couple lineups have some limited success, like +2.8 with Tre, DM, AJ, Hunter, Collins. But it's not like Collins is anchoring the next lineup-of-death. Compared to when they put in Capela at Center(+12) or Okongwu(+8), its a downgrade.

Bamba, although above average as rim protector and a decent 3 ball, is not very good at moving his feet on the perimeter. The result, trading Jax, would have the Pels with 3 slow bigs on the perimeter that is the main problem they’re trying to correct. Collins is decent guarding outside the paint but his rebounding is troubling.

Pels need to obtain an Ayton, Bam or Horford type player. However it appears that they are either not available or too pricey. Pels also don’t have the time to draft/develop a big in their current window.

Hayes should have been told a while back he needed to develop as a big and needed to live in the weight room. His lack of developing his frame has been his bigger deterrent. He can move on the perimeter but still gets pushed around in the paint.

Collins is a good rebounder. He averaged 10 rebounds his 2nd & 3rd year. Then ATL traded for Capela who is one of the best rebounders in the league and that ate into Collin's rebounding numbers

OK, say he holds his own rebounding wise, aren’t Collins and Nance redundant?

Collins best rebounding seasons were when they are really badm I don't trust those rebounding numbers. I don't see him ever anchoring any good teams on the boards.

I think collins is better than nance. He's a much better offensive player. He's having a bad year shooting the 3 but this seems to be an outlier year. every other year of his career he's shot the 3 well. He's also extremely athletic and could give us another lob threat. Nance is probably a better defender but i dont think collins is a bad defender

Herb 2nd round tag was because of his lack of O. I'm no guru, could be as good as pippen (in time) if not hell still be important as a ron Harper Bruce Bowen type dude

Please...never, in any way, compare Herb to Bruce Bowen. Bowen is probably the dirtiest player in the history of the NBA. Doubt he could even play in the NBA today...unless he did away with his best defensive move...the 'ol stick his foot under yours...when you shot a jumper. Amazing that he got away with it so often, back in those days.
