Have any recent big stars turned down supermax and chosen to be traded?

Has this happened recently. All this talk today on the news about AD being traded. He'd turn down $70 million to go to another team. Has anyone done this recently? That's crazy amount of money to leave.

Rumor is Kawhi wouldve turned it down.. Theres only a handful of guys that have the supermax though, Curry, Westbrook, Harden and Wall I believe.

There haven’t really been enough Supermax candidates to really tell.
Wall got his. Westbrook got his. Cousins got traded which made him ineligible for it. Klay didn’t make enough All NBA teams to qualify.

AD will have Rich Paul in his ear, constantly telling him that he can make that $70 mil up in endorsements if he went to LA.

Paul can do that but AD can get endorsements anywhere and he should realize that.
Durant was getting major deals while he was still in OKC, for example.
And on the opposite end, Deron Williams and Carmelo ended up in NYC around that same timeframe and I don’t remember either getting dick despite being huge stars at the time of their trades.

Cousins got traded because the Kings didn't want to pay him the SuperMax. Same with Jimmy Butler. By all accounts Paul George would still be in Indy if he had met the qualifications because Indy wanted to give it to him and he wanted to take it.
It's a lot of money to walk away from. AD will give the Pels every chance to pay him. If this team never gets it together and misses the playoffs then maybe he'll feel he can't afford to stay even for all that money. But if they make a move and get back on track...again it's a lot of money to walk away from.

Saying it's 70 mil is inaccurate.

Kawhi appears to be a case of getting bad advice thanks to his uncle being in his ear.
It should work out well on the court for him and the Raptors compared to the Spurs but he won’t make enough in endorsements to cover the difference.

I just don't see him doing it. I could be wrong but I just don't see him turning the supermax down. His market is way stronger than Kawhi's, his image is near perfect, Kawhi has no personality and screwed up by sitting out that year with the mystery injury. He can market himself here in NOLA or anywhere, he's a global name. Brees has done well marketing wise here in NOLA.

A nightclub in LA will give a celeb like AD $250k just to walk in the front door of a club and straight out the back. He can do that one night a week and pull in an extra $12m in just one year. If he is wearing a logo or brand when he does it, another $20. Big Market teams can pass extra money under the table in a way that new orleans could only dream.
