I think we need to see if his plan works first before we can declare this.

Sure. But in a vacuum, the deal was a disaster for NOLA. Rarely are unprotected picks given without a superstar in return. He gave one for another draft pick. It was utterly stupid. Sure, we'll forget if Queen ends up a superstar, but that doesn't change the absurdity of the trade in that moment.

Oh totally. I definitely agree with you there. I’ve explained to many people that even if Queen is a superstar it doesn’t erase how irresponsible the trade was when he made it. But his overall plan for the team could potentially work. Not giving him great chances, but I need something to root for I guess.

I do not understand this point of view at all. The only way the trade is a failure is if that 2026 pick ends up in the top 10. We are not going to be a lottery team. So people are crying over the 16th to 30th pick in the draft, which you can get pretty cheap.

Queen is a foundational pick and a wedge against Zion. That selection will either spur Zion to superstardom or get him to tap out, which will finally allow us to move on. I cannot be more proud of Dumars making that type of move. We can't tank. We are going to try to win every game, no more sitting out healthy players or lengthy treatment plans. I'm excited..

You are correct. It's a stupid argument.

That's an insane assumption. Like batshit.

Do you watch basketball? Pretty much every team in the lottery last year was there on purpose. They are trying to rebuild or reset, had massive injures, so they gave up. That's what we did. I don't want to do it again.

If we are healthy last year, we should be a borderline .500 team. I'm certain of that. We are better this year. We are deeper and have better balance. I don't like Ingram but it is a loss. I think we made it up mostly. My biggest fear is something happening with Zion. But even without him, I still think we are a 30+ win team..

Our shitty medical staff and soft arse players sitting out months at a time year after year after year after year have done enough damage

I like your optimism.

Two things to think about.....Zion will not stay healthy. When has he ever? And, Willie is still the HC. Just saying.

The Derek Queen trade will soon be the modern version of this image once Atlanta becomes a 2 seed and we give them the next fricking massive star guard in Peterson who is getting Kobe comps right now.

How would that happen? You think we are a bottom 5 team in the league right now? That doesn't even take into account at least 10 teams will be tanking at the end of the season. It just doesn't make sense..

Same here. I thought for sure there was no way it could be unprotected completely. I kept waiting for the correction of the previous report.

A roster with some decent players but not all star quality that just came off a massive injury riddled season whose ‘star’ can’t ever complete an entire season.

Hell yea, let’s throw that unprotected first up for a mid round first. After two teams at the very bottom of the lottery just hit the first and second pick lotto. What could go wrong?

I know people like to flame Dumars for the Milicic pick but Milicic wasn’t bad at all. He was actually a skilled big, it was the mental part that got him. It also seem like he didn’t want to play in the US. Also Detroit wouldn’t play young guys (just like Willie) which affected Milicic development. I think that’s why Dumar is so big on character now so he won’t make the same mistake. I don’t see Fears or Queen having weak mentality like Milicic.
Huh? Milicic was never any good. Even after playing in Europe (FIBA), he was seen as an NBA project. Media and scouts went nuts over his workout. He was drafted because he was a young/big 7 footer with "potential" (the NBA first allowed international players turning 18 to be drafted that year). He never proved any of the doubters wrong in the NBA either.

How in the world can you declare that we will not be a lottery team? I sure hope you are correct, but the West is brutal and we lost a lot of depth (and Murray will be out for half the season). We still have Willie as well. Also, way too early to declare Queen a "foundational" piece.

This is a dumb thing to debate. He made a bad draft pick 20 years ago, then won the NBA championship. All GMs make bad choices. It happens.

Clearly you did not follow the NBA during his tenure. He was a walking joke. All fans made fun of how ignorant he was when making deals.

Because we will be trying to make the playoffs. We won 49 games the year before. We intentionally lost last year for over half the season. The other half was unprecedented injuries. We were playing games without 8 of our top 10 players. Just shutting down guys for no reason.

We are better and deeper than last year, plus now there is no sitting out healthy players. We will be gifted a playin spot once all the tanking teams quit with 20-30 games to go. It's set up for us. People are betting on teams like the Warriors and Clippers who are primed for huge falls. I'm willing to throw in the Rockets now too. I actually think we may have a shot at a top 6 seed..

I want to know the team's combined record in games that Zion, Herb, and Trey all play in, because I think that it's elite. The problem last season was that the three of them only played together in four games, I think.
